And now I need to leave to return the car I rented after the car I was driving was hit from behind while I was stopped at a red light Monday. I’ll stay in touch by phone as I may.

It SURE is a good July...out here on the West Coast. Cool=55 in the morning, up to 60 during the "heat" of the day and back down to 55 in the evening. Breezy, TOTALLY mosquito and fly free. NO self respecting fly or mosquito would show its ugly face in THIS chill.
Mmmmmm, brrrr!

:o)

Good for you. Here in the Gulf Coast in FL, it’s been humid, in the low 90’s with scattered showers, mid 70’s at night with an occasional tornado watch. In other words, just a typical summer around here so far.

Only TWO days at 90 or above so far here in corrupt soviet Red Hampshire...weather has been amazingly pleasant, which is really benefiting my garden. Yahweh knows my wife and I need the good bounty so we can get out of this state once and for all come October...praise Him!

Good for you. Here in the Gulf Coast in FL, it’s been humid, in the low 90’s with scattered showers, mid 70’s at night with an occasional tornado watch. In other words, just a typical summer around here so far.

In order to afford a house here in San Francisco my husband got a job with Saudi ARAMCO. We lived there for five years, right on the Arabian (Persian) Gulf. We were about 100 yards from the water.
I KNOW hot and humid.

After we returned home for good I joined a fancy-schmancy health club. I had NEVER had the money before.
WELL, this club had a sauna and a steam room. I decided to try these NEW things.

Sauna: it was EXACTLY like the open Saudi desert: hottern Hades and dry as a bone. I was able to stay in the sauna for ABOUT two minutes.

Steam room: it was EXACTLY like Ras Tanura: hottern Hades and so humid that it dripped. I got so I could stay in THERE for about 15 minutes. Wow, did it clear up the sinuses. I couldn't stay long enough in the sauna to feel its effects.

=======================================

In Ras Tanura we lived within sight of one of Saudi Arabia's many refineries. The orange flame didn't smell, it just gave off BLACK fumes. The white flame did smell/STINK, as it was hydrogen sulfide (or something like that) and made us ALL sick when we happened to go outside and the wind was from the north.

My husband had been making $800/month with PG&E, a good salary as an engineer. His first paycheck with ARAMCO in 1980, spring, was $5000.00 per month. Needless to say I was delirious with joy. We paid off ALL OUR DEBTS with that first bump in money.
The kicker was that all American ARAMCO employees had a deal with the US Internal Revenue: we paid NO federal income tax on our earnings.
Since we were out of California for over a year we were no longer California residents and therefore paid no state income tax.

After TWO years in the KSA we were able to BUY a house in San Francisco. We paid cash. We had the house paid for in nine years.

I DID get accustomed to the heat and humidity. I don't mind it all all. I DO prefer this cooler weather as it was what I was brought up in.

I didn't know that your state was so liberal. I guess "Live free or die" isn't part of the state MO anymore. Shame.
I'm from California, the land of fruits and nuts, with flakes in between.

============================================

Maintaining sanity is easy thanks to my pellet gun. I got it on Amazon.com (teeny, weeny pictures) and didn't realize what it really looked like until I opened the box. It looks like a Dirty Harry magnum .357.

I take aim at the NOISY, NOISY crows and ravens that have taken up residence around here. My husband used to have a pellet gun and would HIT the birds as he was SUCH a sure-shot. I sold ALL his guns: two rifles (One was an over-under Air Force rifle.) and about ten pistols. I loved firing his little Beretta. It fit right into my hand.

I used Osama bin Laden as a target. I got so I could hit his scuzzy beard 9/10 times from 20 feet. That was good for me.

With hindsight I know I shouldn't have sold all his guns but I wasn't thinking straight as his illness and death really took the wind out of my sails. He's only been gone four years but it seems much longer.

============================================

I ACCIDENTALLY hit one of the crows/ravens a few weeks ago...and the crow/raven remembers me. The pellet didn't kill it or knock it out of the sky. It did knock off a feather.
It didn't change its direction. The crow (even tails feathers) or raven (diamond shaped tail feathers) looked at me. Nothing else. But it remembered.

Now, ALL the crows and ravens fly away REALLY, REALLY fast when I open the window or back door. They do remember.

Now, I love my pellet gun, though when I open the window or go outside the back door to shoot I MAKE SURE I have no neighbor looking at me.

I have a forest across the street and we have FIVE feet in between houses...a real treat here. I am on a curve so I have EVEN MORE room on my east side.

More importantly: SANITY MAINTAINED!

Thank you, Dirty Harry. :o):o)

Harry Callahan:
I know what you're thinking, punk. You're thinking "did he fire six shots or only five?" Now to tell you the truth I forgot myself in all this excitement. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and will blow you head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself a question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

Nice. A friend of mine is part Arabic, he had an uncle in Saudi Arabia who did engineering work for ARAMCO back in the 50’s, made great money. I’ve heard about the climate in that part of the world. I knew someone who was in the army during Desert Storm. Florida is like Alaska compared to the weather over there.

It's not MY state (spit, spit, spit)...it's an 'in-law thing' that will be ENDING at the end of October. :-)

GREAT story about the blackbirds. Our locals pests come from Assghanistan and New York.
