There are already water meters that transmit data automatically to the central billing location. They aren’t prevalent but the market is growing 20%+ CAGR.

All three of my meters (electric, gas and water) are remote read. The electric meter is outside so I didn't care whether it was remote or not, but the other two are inside my house so I had to schedule time away from work to have the meter read and I loved not having to mess with that anymore. The gas meter was such a nuisance that I had even considered paying to have it replumbed and moved outside just to avoid dealing with it.

he would do well to go talk to some local reporters or news team members. The very low wage and long hours that all but a chosen few have to work in order to make a lower middle class living is something the “J” school professors don’t talk about. Everyone thinks they are going to end up being a national correspondent or 6 o’clock anchor desk resident. But, those people are a small percentage of the media that on average makes around $40K a year (less in small markets). If he is lazy, he is going to get a real shock at how competitive mid size and large markets are.

I told him that the only ones who made any money are anchors and they are more personalities than reporters.
His answer was.....but this is what I like. I told his dad....he’ll never make enough to take care of hisself. He’s 29 and still lives at home with dad.

Unless it's changed quite a bit since I knew a reporter that covered local stories for FOX in a central California market 100 miles from the Bay Area - she was making about $13.00 per hour in 2003.

If your nephew is good looking maybe he can marry well. Joking aside, there have been plenty of creative people who succeeded with their own programs after being around the industry and meeting the right people.
