Employees at Dell Services offices in Plano will be affected by global layoffs that parent company Dell Inc. is undergoing, but the number of pink slips the Round Rock-based tech giant will pass out in North Texas is not yet clear.

Dell workers were to be notified Wednesday of layoffs across the globe, including at Dell Services offices in Plano.

A statement put out by Dell confirmed the layoffs but declined to give the number of workers that the computer firm will cut. Dell has about 2,500 employees in North Texas and about 16,500 statewide.

I hate it for these people.

A lot of people are trying to come here illegally for opportunities. Where are these opportunities mr. Obama? The opportunities most of them are really seeking is taxpayer funded welfare.

Obama and the democrats spew nothing but rank gas.

You are probably right. Understand the good folks in Denton are trying to shut down fracking. Shouldn’t take long for these greenies to take over that part of Texas. Maybe they will take in some of those poor unfortunate children from Central America and get $6,000 a month from the government.

WAIT WHAT!!! Not possible.

We need to flood the nation with illegal immigrants and grant amnesty because tech giants can’t find workers. First Microsoft and now Dell announce layoffs??? How can this be? Have democrats been lying to us???

and Microsoft announed layoffs of about 13-18 thousand today

which Microsoft claims will be largely in its recently acquired Nokia cell phone unit (we’ll see)

but both actions reflect a decline in “older” and PC-based technologies and the largest tech growth now being in the “smart phone” and tablet area and its continuing to go mostly to the already giants in those areas

“catch up” costs money and as long as you have revenue it requires dumping the unprofitable and squeezing more profit out of all else you have going - so Dell and Microsoft need to “catch up” and that’s why they both announced layoffs, so more remaining revenue can be invested in newer brighter ideas

Again? I got let go from there back in February. Since then, 5 others have left my department.

In the restructuring since going private, it appears that Dell Services in Plano is the unwanted child of Dell Corporate.

Yep ... India and/or Panama. That’s where the jobs are going. My replacement is in India.

RE: They are moving to India and China

I’m waiting for the response of FReepers who propose TARIFFS on these two countries to bring these jobs back to the USA.

How about we cut regulations and taxes on business? We have the highest corporate taxes on Earth.

That seems to be the most LOGICAL solution to the problem but somehow, people want to PROTECT American jobs by TAXING American products made in these countries.
