NEWINGTON — When Talia Maselli envisioned her perfect prom date, one man immediately sprang to mind: Vice President Joe Biden.

“Joe Biden makes me laugh,” the Maselli said. “He just cracks me up.”

So she mailed Biden a handwritten note last fall asking him to escort her to the Newington High School prom.

“I am inviting you so far in advance because I’m sure many 17-year-old girls send you prom invitations, and I had to beat them to it,” Maselli said in her letter. “I could only tolerate a high school dance if I was to be escorted by the most delightful man in America.”

Is (s)he a transexual? Biden would actually prefer the optics of that.

Yeah, barf.

But OTOH, she has something I'd wager very few teens have ever received from a Vice President of The United States of America.

The dried corsage and correspondence will be an historical curiosity at worst, a museum piece at best.

Well done, though I would not have included the word “sadly” in the fourth paragraph.

While I share your sentiments as to the origin of the items in question, I would not underestimate their pecuniary valuation amongst the 'true believers' in time.

The notoriety of the person associated with an item is often as good at improving its value as deserving veneration of the source.

Since she really likes the VP then I suppose I'm happy for her.
I wonder when it was that I ceased to be awed by the presidency.
Hmmm, I've gotten old, cynical and UN- impressionable.

I wonder when it was that I ceased to be awed by the presidency.

LBJ, for me. There was still pomp and pageantry, even respect for the office, but not the awe of earlier years.

Maybe I was just growing up, and would have felt the same regardless of who was in the White House.

Thinking back, though, I think the media fostered the attitude shift, especially when Nixon won.

Somewhere in there, I realized we all wash or smell bad...
