Looked at several articles. None of the writers seem to think that the type of aircraft is worth mentioning.

There is a photo though

I don’t know the fuel range of their plane but it would have been over 2,500 miles to Honolulu. Purely speculation, but they may have been departing at night to take advantage of a lower density altitude. The plane may have been loaded such that it could not fly beyond ground affect.

They were supposed to arrive at Oshkosh next week.

I’m sure we will be having a memorial for them.

Their motives seemed noble. They wanted to earn money to help open schools in Pakistan. I would feel better about it if they had been working on schools here in the states or at least Canada. Pakistan is in dire need of education for the masses, but they are caught in the tight grip of jihad fever. Their compulsion to promote radical Islam, and intolerance of other faiths takes precedence over all else. If they had earned a few thousand for this purpose, it probably would have been spent on Madrassa type schools for boys only, with some funds used to destroy any schools that dared to educate girls or educate both sexes together. Their gift would have been used for purposes of oppression, not for the freedoms available through enlightenment. I commend the father and his son for their sense of adventure. Unfortunately, the sport they chose is as dangerous as it is exciting. Some would say, that both those qualities always appear together; danger usually walks arm in arm with excitement.
