Senate Undergoes Emergency Cleaning After Woman Drags In Bedbugs
The Mirror ^ | 7-24-16 | Betsy Rothstein

The Architect of the Capitol took emergency measures Wednesday to handle a bed bug problem in a Senate Office Building, including closing off a restroom for a couple of days with yellow police tape.

So watch out Senate aides and tourists approaching the sixth floor of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. Bedbugs are not easy to shake.

The trouble began prior to a Senate Indian Affairs Committee hearing held Wednesday in which some attendees—lobbyists, presumably—employed people to wait in line for them. This is a common practice and sources tell us it falls under the jurisdiction of the Rules Committee chaired by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).

A female in line–one of the placeholders–had bedbugs. Sources tell The Mirror she was physically removed from the scene after one of her fellow line sitters noticed bugs crawling all over her. Apparently the bugs were also found in a women’s restroom.

“We’ve been on high alert all day for the damned creatures,” said a Senate aide on condition of anonymity. “People are pretty much on lockdown, scared to leave their offices.”

Question: Will the Senate take steps to ensure that hired sitters are not infested with invasive bugs? Will Silkwood showers be a way of the future?

To be sure, the expression “Don’t let the bedbugs bite” just took on a whole new meaning for anyone in or near Dirksen.

The Mirror put in a call to the Architect of the Capitol’s office and wrote Schumer’s press secretary, as well as aides at the Rules Committee. Unfortunately, since it’s evening, everyone in the AOC office has gone home. They told me to call back in the morning.

Here in the Czech Republic, companies that deal with bedbugs and other assorted hard-to-kill critters use a domestically manufactured cyanide-based pesticide called Urugan D2 (Hurricane).

Many of you back in the US would recognize it by it’s older German trade name: Zyklon-B.

It’s still made here, at a factory called Draslovka Kolín a.s., and by all accounts, it works like a charm. It’s what the pest-removal people recommend.

Yes...you read that right. Zyklon-B is still in use, though granted, under a different name.

They came from the blankets the government gave the Indians.

A complete fumigation and walling off of the LEFT side of the aisle is the only cure.....

This entire scenario sums up Washington DC rather nicely...especially since Schumer has involvement. The entire place is a bug infested brothel.

Good night
Sleep tight
Don't let the bed bugs bite
If they do
Let them chew
Because they have to eat, too

The best system for bedbug eradication is to seal off the building, remove all the food and perishables, and HEAT the building to an unacceptably high temperature (using special heaters designed for that purpose), and keeping the temperature at that horrible heat for a specified amount of time.

You've almost perfectly described the Capitol during the summer, before central air conditioning.

IIRC, the last time Congress passed a budget on time was the year before they installed central a/c in the Capitol.

I’m sure this is not funny for the people personally affected.

Perhaps they'll finally understand why we want to keep illegals from crossing the border.

Actually I knew that because I read it here on Free Republic. Is the factory near Usti nad Labem? Remember that place for good beer, good women, and that big castle along the river.

Hubby’s workplace from a few years ago had a weird parasite problem. A woman went to the restroom and found a bloody explosion all over a toilet and the stall walls. I guess it was disgusting. The woman went and got a male coworker to come look at the worm at the bottom of the toilet in said stall. He identified the type of parasitic worm. I guess one of the workers (custodial, I think) decided to try to lose weight via parasite. They had to quarantine that restroom for a time. It gave me the heebe-jeebies because I always used that restroom when I went to hubby’s work. And my oldest daughter used it, too. Ugh. Eww. Eww. I can’t remember if hubby found out who the worm carrier was or if a friend who worked as a custodian searched to identify her. But just what would possess someone to give herself worms in order to lose weight???

Generally, bedbugs do not travel on people, but hide in bedding. The more likely critters are head lice, like those carried by the southern invaders.

Usti nad Labem is about an hour away from Kolin. Yes, Usti is a nice place; a bit prone to flooding from time to time, but nowhere's perfect, after all. Another nice place is a city called Poděbrady; a spa town, though not as internationally famous as some of the other ones in the Czech Republic. I lived in Poděbrady for a while, and I still fondly remember the fountains of free mineral water all over the town. :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pod%C4%9Bbrady

I tried 6 publicly sold “remedies” for bedbugs, and NONE was worth a damn.

Then I read an internet post / article recommending malathion. The greenies would wet their collective pants, but a diluted malathion solution WORKED quite well. A couple of treatments and they were all dead. My wife and I felt no ill effects. The bedbugs did.

Has anyone asked the bedbugs if they are disgusted with having to share a room with a U.S. Senator??

They tried to bring in exterminators but they all got arrested when they said they were there to ‘bomb the place’.
