Page: Rick Perry's border campaign — for president?

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a response to the crisis of unaccompanied children crossing our southern border. He's calling up the National Guard. To do what? Provide daycare?

In the meantime, border agents trying to handle the inflow find themselves handling such unexpected duties as changing baby diapers.

In a news conference Perry insisted that his assignment of 1,000 troops to the border will be "force multiplier" to assist state troopers, the Border Patrol and other police who, unlike the National Guard, are allowed to make actual arrests and detentions. But sheriffs along the border sound unimpressed. Some told reporters that they have not been consulted about the wisdom of sending military personnel who are not authorized to stop, question or arrest anyone.

It's so sad to see toddlers hopping aboard Mexican freight trains. Traveling for days without a change of diapers. And they would be flying here first class with champaign handed to them by hot stewardesses if the Republicans would be more charitable. /SARC!

It’s the kind of president we need...one that will stand up for America...for a change!

“In the meantime, border agents trying to handle the inflow find themselves handling such unexpected duties as changing baby diapers.”

Is this really true? Please tell me this is satire, sarcasm, toungue-in-cheek journalism...something.

Beyond reprehensible. How much farther can we fall as a nation?

Yup, assuming he does not revert to his former “Pathway to Citizenship” crap in his 2011-2012 Presidential Primary failed run.

Ok, can’t change diapers? How about if they start building a wall!

This is becoming an increasingly ONE ISSUE election... Why not Perry!

He's the man on the spot... has been.

I could easily see myself voting based on A SINGLE issue and this one would be IT.

Education, taxes, health care, foreign policy, etc... don't matter much if US sovereignty is hemorrhaging hourly

Mr. Page, most of those “sheriffs” you talk about that are on the border with Mexico are also Democrat’s and nearly all, if not ALL, of those counties go blue every time!

So, not surprisingly for you, you are, shall we say, “disingenuous” when you say “sheriff’s are not in favor” (paraphrasing).

Moreover, the Dallas Morning News is a typical liberal rag for print media that needs to be bought out and then closed, permanently. Of course you know all of this and like most journalist’s you just don’t give a damn about accuracy
or honesty in your reporting.

I didn’t say that “HE” was the one we need, just the one act of protecting America.

I should have known the naysayers would come out of the woodwork when I posted that thread.

I’ll make a deal with you...you be For who you want, and I’ll do the same.

Trying to Build a dam with one rock doesn't make a President.

Perry has not done Jack and will not do anything substantial to
curb this crisis. I'll change my mind if he takes the right actions over the
next Ten years, but this kneejerk stunt before an election is hornswoggle.

Maybe. We’ll see.

At this point a lot of Americans would sell their souls to a guy who would properly articulate their views on immigration AND THEN would actually act on the issue as he said!

Perry's "opposition" to this latest flood of ILLEGALs is political theater meant to fool anyone gullible enough to buy into it. Perry's record by far outweighs his current rhetoric.

RICK PERRY GETS D-MINUS ON IMMIGRATION

That D- grade is a bit fallacious. He is “good” on securing the border. And frankly, until that is done, nothing else matters. It is phony to just weight all these issues the same. Makes no sense.

I am very familiar with Perry’s record and the D- is well-deserved.

I know you feel that way….and Im telling you…until we secure the border, all this other stuff is totally irrelevant. So for that, a D- is not accurate, as he is an A or A- on the border…..

You can worry about the other if you want to. And he may well deserve D- or F on those other things…but none of that changes the reality that is simply NOT deniable: until the border is secure, all this other is just chat.

I fully agree that we need to secure the border and have never said otherwise. You may call giving taxpayer subsidized handouts to ILLEGAL aliens irrelevant, I don’t. You may consider Perry’s calling ILLEGAL intruders “Texans” irrelevant, I don’t. Perry’s entire record on immigration is being considered with the D-. He can beat his chest all he wants on securing the border but when it comes to supporting the ILLEGALs who are already here he has a long history of doing so and that works as a magnet to bring more. That’s hardly working to secure the border, it’s making the problem there worse.

Why not Perry! He's the man on the spot... has been.

Don't be fooled. Perry has been Governor of Texas for over ten years, and has done little to nothing to stop the influx of illegals to this state.

Now that Obama's making him look bad by directing the southern invasion into Perry's state, he suddenly finds the spine to finally use his authority to call in the Guard......except......they won't be apprehending a single border crosser.

Friend, Perry was forced by political circumstances to do something to save face. Too bad this dog and pony show won't do a damn thing to save Texas.

Yep. That's it, in a nutshell.
