Mexican Prison Ordeal Saps Marine's Life Savings
While Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi was living on a base and eating MREs in Afghanistan and earning a battlefield promotion, his paychecks from Uncle Sam were piling up in the bank. He dreamed of returning to Weston, Fla., when his second tour of duty ended and buying a new truck, maybe getting a place of his own. At 26, and with a modest nest egg waiting, he had a future back home. Now Tahmooressi languishes in a Mexican prison, plagued by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. And the $65,000 he saved in the service of his nation is gone, according to his mother. "He has already lost all of his life savings," his mother, Jill Tahmooressi, said. "When this is all over he will have nothing and will be facing an enormous debt."

From what I heard, he entered Mexico by mistake. The freeway to the Mexican border is confusing to people who haven’t been there before. I heard he made a wrong turn, and was not intending to go to Mexico. You pass a point of no return, and then will encounter Mexican border patrol, not American border patrol.
He had guns with him, that are legal in America, but are illegal to have in Mexico. So he got arrested.
I wish this can be resolved and get him out of there. He could be facing years in a Mexican prison.

A trust fund for this guy would be nice.
If he had deserted from the Marines, he would be free today and Mexico would have gotten five of their drug lords back.
Plus he could’ve potentially have been re-instated without any blemishes on his record.

But she also reported that the minute he got up to the border check he told them he was in that lane by mistake, did not wish to enter Mexico and told them "if you search my car you will find weapons that I legally own". He was straight forward and cooperative. He is a good American being let down by not so good Americans.

An excellent idea.I've read that there are websites where this nation's (and perhaps Canada's as well) spoiled brats beg money from perfect strangers to fund their honeymoons,pay their tuition or buy their BMWs.I'd surely give $20 to a fund for this guy.
And what you say about the border patrol is true.I get to Canada fairly frequently and your border guards are always polite yet thorough.Coming home,OTOH,I often get snide,rude questions from *our* border guards.I guess if I spoke Spanish they (the US Border Guards) would be more civil.
This could be solved in a few minutes if the Mexico-US border were closed. Instead, Mexico is being rewarded because we allow the hordes to leave northern Mexico for the US.
I'm beyond disgusted.
I would happily kick in money for this poor guy stuck in a Mexican prison. I guess they have the space to house him, seeing as they don’t bother imprisoning their own criminals.
