NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) A major pharmaceutical company is planning another round of layoffs that again will hit Montgomery County hard.
On the heels of more than 650 job cuts at its West Point manufacturing and research plant in late 2013 and earlier this year, Merck plans to let go another 600 employees by the end of August. The company has already filed notices with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor which says the jobs are being cut in North Wales and Lansdale. County Commissioner Josh Shapiro is disappointed with the news, but says theyre working to help those affected.

Why? Big Pharma couldn't afford 0bamacare?
But, but, but according to odumbo, every aspect of the economy is improved or improving....what’s the deal.
So unless you were a bundler for odumbo’s campaign and you have some BS green job or company, you’re not doing so well in America today, huh, who would have seen that one coming.
In before...do I really have to say it? You know.
I thought you were planning to say... Bush’s fault :)
Oh no. I leave that one to the professionals.
Remember the economic multiplier effects too. Each one of those lost jobs supports jobs in all the service businesses.
I don’t remember the mulitlier factors offhand. But, losing 600 jobs could cause the loss of hundreds of other jobs in service businesses, which depended upon The consumer spending of those 600 people whose jobs are gone.
Don’t worry , Obama will send them some illegals to help out , D’oh
I used to work there- huge campus in North Wales, something like 10,000 people
RE: something like 10,000 people
So, a layoff of 650 + 600 = 1250 people is 12.5% of the workforce !!

Make that 1250 jobs. This layoff is on the heels of the previous one just several months ago ( 650 positions ).
On top of the other layoff it would be felt
Wow, a real monster. looks like it has a gigantic solar array on the roof. Even the multi-level parking garage is completely covered by photovoltaic cells.
There must be two or three thousand employed there.
It is a huge campus - multiple buildings - looks like s small college to be honest
I neglected to read the part of your post where you said that about 10,000 work there. That’s amazing.
It looks like most of the 600 are sales reps.
Perhaps Merck is looking at a more web-centered sales organization?
No idea - I have a friend who still works there so I will ask
