The saddest thing is, that not all Downs syndrome victims are retarded at all, and many are borderline and function very well. I went to college with a student who had Down’s Syndrome. She was very intelligent and graduated with a degree in accounting.
One of my friends has a daughter with Down’s. Well, several do, but this particular girl, I thought she had cerebral palsy or another physical disability, because she’s so competent mentally. She even participates in science competitions, although not at her age/grade level.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if she could eventually earn a college degree.
