Once upon a time an American family’s home was their castle and the bigger the better, but growing concerns about meeting mortgage payments and the environmental impact of large houses has helped fuel a new movement of people who are happy to live small.

The Tiny House Movement is a growing group of people who are happy to downsize the space that they live in and enjoy simplified lives as a result.

While the average American home is around 2600 square feet, the typical small or tiny house is around 100-400 square feet.

These tiny houses are hipster versions of manufactured/mobile homes without the negative social stigma.

I tried to watch the awful television show the other night. All I kept thinking was that everyone involved was an idiot.

......and no one would have thought of them back when living well, in comfort were American ideals. The movement is foreboding. Incomes are dipping because of regulation, tax burden, and insurance costs. People are starting to consider lower standards of living as being noble. We’ll start hearing about more people skipping out on air conditioning and trips to the dentist.

and my liberal friends are sharing this like its a good thing.

Our country is purposefully lowering our own standard of living - and are actually proud about the decision. What a bunch of fools.

Cars that ensure everyone dies in car accidents, toilets that won’t flush, light bulbs that cost three times more but only last 1.5 times longer, houses that are too small for decent sized families. Welcome to the Brave New World.

Not quite this extreme, but my wife and I did move down from a 3000 sq ft home to a 2100 sq ft. Not for any trendy reason, but simply because the more space we have, the more crap we accumulate. Moving to a smaller space really forced us donate or dump lots of stupid junk that I was surprised to find we had kept at all.

Ah, the good old days. No television but there was a radio when someone remembered to buy new batteries and on Saturday night, entertainment was provided by the bathtub in the center of the room.

What is going to happen to the school property tax base for the Chilluns? If this crap continues, some of us may say to hell with it all and move back to more traditional cramped housing. At least they were comparatively easy to move and took in some stunning nature:
