Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has established an internal Ebola task force to evaluate how the department can most effectively support overarching U.S. government and international efforts to prevent further transmission of the virus, the Pentagon press secretary said today.

Michael D. Lumpkin, assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low-intensity conflict, has been appointed to lead the task force.

I’m sure they’ll decide that we need to bring the sickest here for treatment. We can call it medical asylum and we won’t be allowed to know about it.

snip.

Lumpkin has a Master’s Degree in National Security Affairs and he is recognized by the Department of Defense as a specialist in both the Western Hemisphere and Special Operations/Low Intensity Conflict.

As a Navy SEAL, Lumpkin held every leadership position from Platoon Commander to Commanding Officer of a Team. Two of these assignments were in the Republic of Panama which served as his operational hub. In Latin America, he was formally recognized by the Armed Forces Preparedness Association for his Outstanding Contributions to National Security while conducting counter-narcotics operations. Lumpkin also served as the Officer in Charge of the training and readiness of all West Coast SEAL Teams. The Teams he trained performed magnificently in the invasion of both Afghanistan and Iraq while sustaining no casualties.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Martial law?

The man said he was gonna fundamentally transform America. People cheered and fainted then and people still cheer and support this guy's goals. There are very few people in this country that extrapolate that statement with the means to the goal.

You could be correct...........

Does US DoD have a history of getting involved when a flu or virus pops up? (other than vaccinating employees)

The very, very real problem is people know there is a magic serum and with that limited availability...the government will need to decide, who, where, when, and even if you get it.

Yes, the DoD has always been involved in infectious disease control.

The Walter Reed hospital was named after a US Army physician who was instrumental in understanding the transmission of yellow fever, enabling this disease to be brought under control. The US military continues to research a wide variety of infectious diseases. The Walter Reed hospital has a large research facility, although such research takes place at a number of facilities across the country.

Got your year’s supply of preps? Including biohazard suits etc. I plan to just stay home and hide, cause no one is going to think I am important enough to get a treatment that is in short supply.

No biohazard suit...But tons of disposable gloves. I am squared away with food, unless I have many long term guests.
Like yourself, I will try to stay at home for as long as possible.
The good thing about ebola is that it takes you out real fast. The bad thing is that your mind starts disintegrating before you die. I do not want my relationship with my Creator compromised in the last week of my life.
Being from hurricane/ice storm farming country, I have been prepping for decades. But. I do not know if my heart is prepared for understanding huge loss of life.
Further, I do not know which is my bigger threat, ebola or ISIS.
