I would be very surprised if Jeff Bell were not pro-life. He is a conservative Presbyterian. He was a movement conservative in the 1960s and 1970s when I was very slightly acquainted with him. Although I cannot find it on Amazon, I have buried in my book collection a book by Jeff published about two years ago and describing the growth of the conservative movement to the rise of social issue conservatism.

Descriptions of Jeff often reference his loss to Bill Bradley in 1978 (for the same seat). The real story was his defeat that year of longtime "Republican" quisling US Senator Clifford Case, a public nuisance of the first order who was wrong on everything that counted.

Bear in mind that West Virginia, Montana and South Dakota are slam dunks. That means that three of the eight listed are necessary for a bare majority. I believe that Joni Ernst in Iowa is very likely. Tom Cotton in Arkansas is in very good shape. Cory Gardner trails by 1.5% in Colorado but the gun issue may make a major difference there with Chickenpooper up for re-election.

Jeff Bell may be Mt. Everest but he deserves our full support. Mike McFadden in Minnesota may be Mt. Sinai but he has the cash to wage a war. I did not include Tillis of North Carolina whose opponent deserves defeat but whose own bona fides are somewhat in question. Landrieu is beatable. Alaska and Michigan are also quite winnable.

Don't be a pessimist.

I checked and Jeff Bell is pro-life, but though he is five years younger than Jerry Brown, many won’t back him as “too old” against Booker.
