Wasn’t KISS an acronym for knights in service to satan? My musical tastes were already entrenched by the time rock music got big so I know little about that group or others of a similar “style”. If I’m wrong, as an old fogey, I’ll take my lumps. Just passing along what one of the deacons at my church told me years ago.

I was never a KISS fan even when all my peers were.

That said, the name KISS is only attached to the story as a means of drawing readers in.

No, it wasn’t and isn’t. That is something some people made up and declared it to be true when there was all this hysteria about rock bands pledging their souls to satan.

Gene’s makeup and demon schtick was the source of that. People took the theatre of it literally and went off bug nuts. Same for the whole Dungeons and Dragons thing. It was just another a way for Televangelist types to fleece the flock and build their powerbase.

Kiss was never sataninc. They were a rock band and nothing more.

No

It was evangelism gone mad and very creative people looking for the boogey man and satan everywhere.

The church we went to burned their records, cassettes and 8 tracks.

I didn’t participate because I never got into buying albums and such.

They were just an awesome band.

KISS an acronym for...

EVERY time KISS comes up here this garbage is thrown out. Reminds me of the NAZI (and minitrue) propaganda philosophy of if you tell a lie loudly enough, often enough and with enough conviction....

Total urban myth. KISS is just a rock band and not a very good one at that - though they did put out one classic rock ballad ("Beth"). But they marketed themselves pretty well and used gimmicks, like spending the 1970s in silly clown makeup, and using pyrotechnics in shows, to get way more popular than they deserved to be.

As for being satan worshippers, that's completely baseless. Not even the band themselves would want to be known for that.

Just passing along what one of the deacons at my church told me years ago.

Now there's an authority on the subject. *rolling my eyes*

If my memory serves right, Gene Simmons said that they chose "KISS" because their other four-letter choice would have never been spoken on the radio nor printed on the album covers. He is in the business to make money and that would not have worked out.
