How do we, as individuals, weather the coming Ebola storm?

Treating patient ZERO required over 70 nurses, doctors and and assistants, rooms, machines such as one for kidney dialysis, which are now contaminated, at a cost to taxpayers of over $500,000. If the virus sweeps across the USA, it is obvious we can't spend those kinds of funds and resources on each patient. I envision martial law, directives to 'shelter in place' and no help at all from anyone. Aside from the normal worries, food, fuel for winter heat, protection from the sure-to-come hungry mobs, how do we survive this killer disease that sports a 70% mortality rate?

Aside from the normal worries, food, fuel for winter heat, protection from the sure-to-come hungry mobs, how do we survive this killer disease that sports a 70% mortality rate? Jokes aside (get under the desk, put your head between your legs and kiss your butt good bye) can one isolate a family member and home-treat him or her, without killing the rest of the household? We wouldn't be here if our ancestors didn't survive several plagues over the generations.

Would the game plan be to hole up until the virus finally fades, or can we expect everyone to eventually contract it and survive or die on the stamina and genes gifted to us by our fore parents?

What would we need to have in stock to self-treat a family member, keeping in mind that the Africans living in huts and with NO resources seem to have at least as good a success rate as the Dallas hospital?

I’m running to the country home and holing up. I just saw five deer eating apples in my back yard last week. They looked real tasty. With winter coming, food preservation may be easier.

“With winter coming, food preservation may be easier.”
I was thinking that the coming winter may cut down on the disease’s transmission rate.
The willful negligence on the part of ALL of our politicians here is nothing short of treasonous...

Our health care system, any health care system could potentially be overwhelmed.

We need help from those folks who have survived or have a natural immunity to the disease. It appears West Africa is undergoing a screening for those folks through natural selection right now.

If the virus escapes into the wild as it threatens to do, this situation would rapidly turn into a “Black Swan Event” that would cause the kind of social ,and economic breakdown many preppers have been warning of for a long time now.

Start reading blogs and articles and YouTube videos on that topic. Maybe there would be enough time to accomplish the basics of prepping, but not much more.

Cold weather actually prolongs the viability of the ebola virus according the MSDS sheet anyways.

SURVIVAL OUTSIDE HOST: The virus can survive in liquid or dried material for a number of days (23). Infectivity is found to be stable at room temperature or at 4°C for several days, and indefinitely stable at -70°C (6, 20). Infectivity can be preserved by lyophilisation.

I hope people wake up and realize 0bamacare coverage is not care.

0bama will not stop flights.
The only thing we can do is self quarantine.

I know it sounds harsh, but is you are sick, stay home. Family/friends/church can drop off food at your front door, avoiding contact

2 Chronicles 7:14King James Version (KJV)

14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

If Ebola starts to spread in the US, I could see a couple of scenarios. First is a repeat of the 17th century outbreaks of Bubonic plague in Europe.... devastating, but not to the extent of previous outbreaks in the 13 century where nearly half of the population was wiped out. This scenario would be the result of a totally incompetent response by our government and sadly is the direction we are headed with Obama. The second scenario is that we as a nation finally get motivated to do something starting with sealing our borders and rigorously keeping anyone who is potentially infected out and fast quarantine for all outbreaks. There would be deaths and hardship, but far less than if we keep up with Obama's bumbling response. That Obama refuses to even stop potential carriers from entering the US and puting an army of idiots in charge with no coherent plan or even common sense puts us all in jeopardy. It thus will take a political solution before we can address the medical situation.

While I expect the GOP will take over Congress in a few weeks, that doesn't solve the political problem. We know Obama wil not deviate from his failed policies and the at best wishy-washy GOP leadership will likely not step to up to the crisis. It may take desperate measures to finally address the Ebola problem.

The problem is and remains Obama. So far he is unwilling and unable to become the leader we need in this crisis. He seems incapable of making even common sense decisions and appears detached or even deluded. The crisis we face is not only an Ebola pandemic, but also a crisis of leadership.

how do we survive this killer disease

Don't wash the bodies of dead relatives
Don't go near anyone who does that
Don't take any public transportation including cabs
Be careful when you go out shopping, use gloves if you really want to be safe

That's it in a nutshell. If you believe it is spreadable more than the above, then stock up because the only food will be doled out in unsafe locations.

While the economy will take a huge hit, it's the hit they have been postponing for a couple decades. A new economy will take its place rather easily. OTOH the politicians may go for hyperinflation instead. Can't predict except to say we probably won't get that far gone.

MSDS are not very scientific in that they lose important detail. Specially freeze dried virus can be made viable but it is very difficult to reconstitute. Here are some papers on real life fomite spread:
http://www.nature.com/srep/2012/121115/srep00811/full/srep00811.html?message-global=remove&goback=.gde_4429892_member_187356406
http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/196/Supplement_2/S142.full

No dry spread, that is one certainty.

Our contingency plan includes not having any (non-elocronic) contact with anyone outside family. When securing supplies, gloves, masks, hand sanitizer, and bleach will be used in a methodical decon fashion. And last prayer that we won’t have to visit medical facilities while the crisis is on.

There’s an MSDS sheet on Ebola? Who knew?

Your plans sound good.

I forgot about that one. Obviously we can all put off the routine stuff, probably better off without it. But a stroke or heart attack could be fatal because there is no hospital or ambulances or the hospitals are helping spread ebola. In the latter case the sensible thing is to move ebola to the ebola camps ("emergency treatment centers"). Those will be the swim or drown places like they are in Africa. But it might keep the hospital system relatively intact.
