Just wondering what FReepers do. Posted in CHAT.

Another concern is entering political discussions that you wouldn't want younger "friends" (such as your children) to see.

Thanks in advance for your input!

If they’re actual personal friends outside of political things (yes, I have some lefty friends) and they frequently post their politics, I unfollow their feed. That way, if I want to see what’s up with them, I have to actively go to their page to see it- I don’t have leftyspew all over my screen before I’ve finished my morning coffee. They’re not unfriended, I don’t have to listen to their politics.

I don’t make political or religious posts on social media, and when people do, I don’t respond to them one way or another.

I just ignore most posts and do very little posting at all on my own home page or timeline on fb. In fact, don’t post much at all on fb. But when I do it’s usually on Free Republic on facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/26012226159/ ) or some other specialized page.

I am not on social media so I wouldn’t know. I have never virtually “liked” anything so I don’t know what that means. Usually when I like something its a mental note in my head of something I approve of. I don’t have to tell everyone every time I like something and I don’t go looking for people to like something that I have. If they like it fine, if not, I don’t care.
So I suppose I can’t offer much to this conversation.
If you mean friends face to face, I just don’t talk about politics. We talk about football or something

I do as little as possible on Facebook. I “like” pictures of little kids, but that’s it. I spend my political time here because I have more fun and anonymity.

I don’t do Facebook.

If I did, I would unfriend anyone who insulted me as you have described.

I keep them as friends but “unfollow” them. That way I don’t have to see the crap they post. If I wan to know what they’re up to I can click on their pages, but this way they don’t show up on my news feed. Other alternative is just to delete their political posts as soon as they pop up.

There is a button next to shared content (v). Click that and you can hide all reposts from The Onion, MSNBC, Atheist supremacist groups, MoveOn, etc. etc.

I call it Socialist Networking for a reason.

I have deactivated my FB account, so I don't remember all the rules of FB posting. I really didn't care to read what any of my commie "friends" were posting. For the most part I blocked them without unfriending them. If you unfriend them, they will get a message that you have done so, so keep that in mind.

I did post political and religious articles, often when I saw them on FR. I wasn't trying to stir up a hornet's nest, and my settings blocked my postings from the liberal weenies who were alleged friends. I posted conservative stuff so my conservative friends and relatives who don't read sites like FR could keep up with things. I would usually click on an interesting article, and click on "share" or "like" to post it to FB. Eventually, I just decided it was a waste of time.

I’ve got one lefty friend from HS that posts lefty foolishness fairly often. Sometimes I ignore it, other times I wade in just to let him know he’s not living in a lefty echo chamber and there are other ways to look at things. He gives as well and it doesn’t devolve into anger on either side.

My personal postings are rarely political except when responding to others that have taken the left-hand turn somewhere.

I have been called an "extremist" by liberals in my family.

In response I said, "I can defend my political ideology with fact, logic and reason. If you cannot do the same I must be an extremist".

All liberal "friends" unfriended me. lol!

These are the same people who debated who should be the first female president. One faction wants Hillary Clinton and the other faction wants Michelle Obama. Yes, they are that stupid.

I was informed that even though they unfriended me they were still reading and commenting on my posts among themselves. So I have a new policy. Anyone who unfriends me gets blocked. I think it works well.

Not long after 0-Tard was elected, I decided to shun all leftist/liberals(including relatives), because people like them put that bastard in office and actively contribute to the destruction of our country as we know it, that my children will have to grow up in and endure.

Why would you want to be “friends” with someone like that. Whether you realize it or not, they are NOT your friends.....

PS: Trying to change their minds is a worthless endeavor, because their ideology is their religion. There’s no changing that.

most of my “friends” are strangers I picked because they were conservatives

a few are non-political people I barely know but probably don’t like a lot of what I post. I don’t really care about offending them.

Most of my friends and relatives have similar political leanings and philosophy. For ones who are peripheral, we tend to just keep topics off politics. One sibling has elected to interpret everything I say in a way that “robs her of her power”, so we are no longer on speaking terms, likely forever.

It might help that I am not on any social media.

I guess I have a different take than most here. I no longer have a FB account, didn’t like the company. However, I am also on other blogs that are not political. Sometimes they will bring up politics, and most are leftists.

Now, here’s the thing, the left was and is obnoxiously in our faces with politics. I totally understand why we all would not want to be like them, but...they are successful in changing the culture with this obnoxiousness. It really isn’t the rabid dem we need to try to convince, but typically there are many other people lurking, that can possibly be converted. Especially, when we give them just enough rope to hang themselves with. It’s kind of a fun hobby for me. Too many low info voters do not know the other side to any political disagreement, and if we don’t tell them, they never will.

One example: On a decorating forum, when Kohman breast cancer awareness pulled funding from planned parenthood, the women on this site were rabid. I posted a comment that simply said “choose life”. Of course I was attacked. I then posted a link to famous Margaret Sanger quotes, the founder of planned parenthood. I received 2 private e-mails from others saying they appreciated my response.

I really think for Conservatives to gain ground, we really do have to speak up.

One more example, and I have many, but a couple of months ago, my DH and I were at a party and another guest, who I had heard in the past talk about faux news, came up to me and said he had been talking to my husband about politics. He is mad at the dems, but not ready to like the r’s. I told him, we are not r’s were tea party and proud of it. He was surprised. But by now, he knew us, and knew we weren’t all the things the media says about us.

I really feel though like I don’t have anybody to have my back. IF you went to any website and said something negative about the current pres. there would be so many people jumping in to disagree and try to make you look foolish. We have to start having others back, and we all need to start standing up for ourselves. IMHO

There really are a lot of good ways to tear down their hold on the culture, but as a group, we don’t talk about them. I wish we had a section here for just that purpose.

Beck was talking about this today. He has changed his opinion on Facebook. He now likes it. But apparently his family has had some trouble because of comments made on Facebook.

His conclusion was that you should address people as if you were addressing them face-to-face.

You can unfollow them. Just right-click on the down arrow on one of their posts and choose, “unfollow”. They will not know it. This is not like a ‘block’. I have many people in my list on the unfollow list....especially my stupid nephews.
