Professor, I have a thought for you:
Americans have owned weapons for hundreds of years yet we never saw this type of violence before with the exception of war where it was necessary. In fact it gave us this great nation you now live in. Now we see a new type of violence which is more brutal and vengeful during a time when socialist policies are being taught in our schools and the government has embraced it. Do you see the correlation? Socialism = more death by guns. Guns were already here. See how I made that same leap of faith like you did? Sorry, forgot “leap of faith” is a religious term which you despise...
Its not a leap of faith. Its a fact. Almost 100% of gun violence in America is committed by either the spreaders or practitioners of Socialism, Liberalism.
How many staunch right wingers shoot up Chicago every night? Mug people? Rape? Near zero.
You are very quick to denigrate and accuse, aren’t you? You couldn’t understand what I was talking about.
Because I pose a ridiculous alternative like the ones which this article implies doesn’t mean that I think anything remotely like this country should disarm, even IF I believe there are too many government agencies that are arming themselves with automatic weapons that have nothing to do with their charter.
Also, I don’t know where you get the “leap of faith” stuff unless you’ve been thread jumping and carrying over other conversations that have been in a different context.
In general, you have a pretty nasty tone in your comment.
Actual fact is that long-term homicide rates have been going down, in America as well as elsewhere, for several centuries.

In the last century, we had two major upticks in this decline, the 20s and the 80s/90s. The all-time low homicide rate was around 1960 and we're very nearly back to that number now.
Should be noted that some significant percentage of the decline in homicide is due to better medical care. There are a lot more attempted but unsuccessful murders, for example, today than in 1900.
To give an obvious example, McKinley's wound would be no problem at all today for a trauma center. But in 1897 it killed him after weeks of suffering.
