Original headline: Disorientated girl, 7, knocks on stranger's door and says she has been in a plane crash prompting search that found wreckage with four bodies inside
Tight-knit: The family of four are from Nashville, Tennessee, and were on Florida on vacation

My prayers for the family. And the word is “disoriented”. I really wonder how they’re grading journalism majors these days.

Sgt. Dean Patterson of the Kentucky State Police says the FAA received a distress call at 5.55pm from a private plane in the area around the time the girl reported the crash to a resident The resident called 911 at 6.30pm and the 7-year-old was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The plane, believed to be a Piper Seneca, was discovered just before 11pm Eastern time near KY 810 South in Lyon County.
Does that timeline seem a little off? It took them 4 1/2 hours to find a downed plane? It couldn't have been far from the house where girl ended up.

This was the lead story on Fox ‘n Friends this morning.
So sad.
God bless and keep that brave little girl.
Prayers for her and the souls of her parents and 9 year old sister and cousin who also perished.

Poor little girl. Very sad for her overwhelming losses. Odd thing, they name all the family, but not her? I suppose it gives her a bit of privacy, but not much if reporters start snooping.

The dad at least was conservative (per his FB page). Terrible tragedy.

A sad story.
The Seneca is a two-engine plane, and this reminds me of the old saying "With engine failure, the second engine just takes the plane to the scene of the accident."

The old protocols for tracking ELTs have been altered for a while, and may have further changed since my own ES days came to an end. In any event, once you get into rugged country, inclement weather, etc, it can take a while to spot an a/c.
I'm probably wrong (I'm used to it), but if I were an EMT, I believe I'd have put "Larry" into the ambulance for that poor little girl regardless of any rules. If it ended my EMT days, so be it.

Lyon County, KY is 80 miles or so north west of Nashville, TN.
Assuming he was returning to Nashville from Florida he may have been lost and ran out of fuel ...
absent any fire at the crash site it's a possibility.

No fire; no fuel. Even with one engine out, a Seneca should have been able to maintain altitude until a landing could be arranged. Distance Key West to Mt. Vernon is 1,300 miles.

According to the report on Fox News, the family was from Nashville,
Illinois, not Nashville, Tennessee.
Nashville is the county seat of Washington County, Illinois.
