Pope declares couples who don’t want kids ‘selfish,’ says they are part of a ‘greedy generation’

Pope Francis, who presumably has not been woken up at 4 a.m. on a workday by the howls of a tiny human who wants to be fed and/or changed, says that couples who don’t want to have kids are “selfish” and are part of a “greedy generation.”

Pope Francis told an audience in St Peter’s Square, Rome Wednesday that it’s a depressed society that considers children to be a burden.

“A society with a greedy generation, that doesn’t want to surround itself with children, that considers them above all worrisome, a weight, a risk, is a depressed society,” he said.

“The choice to not have children is selfish. Life rejuvenates and acquires energy when it multiplies: It is enriched, not impoverished.”

Pope Francis said there was a strong correlation between hope in society and “inter-generational harmony.”

I’m glad when couples who do not want children, don’t have them.

I respectfully disagree.

If income is not there to support a family.

I compare my childhood (born ‘51) to that of kids now. How sad, and I am incapable of making them understand what they are being deprived of...very frustrating.

Careful. You'll be accused of 'Catholic bashing.'

The truth is, the Pope's vocation is no more sacred than anybody else's. If a man [or woman] decides his career is more important to him than children, he's absolutely correct in that decision and shouldn't be having any.

I am still trying to absorb the Pope’s comment that, as one of four children, I am as one of a brood of rabbits.

The Pope has not researched all the reasons for not having children.

Who would want to expose innocent sons & daughters to the degeneracy

and other terrors that proliferate in our world today? I delighted in having four children - they enriched my life in every way. Not sure I would be able to envision a future of opportunity and optimism in this day & age.

Selfish people shouldn't have kids. And having kids will not magically make them unselfish.

Didn’t he just say people shouldn’t “breed like rabbits”? I’m confused.

What about me? I have kids, but I’m still discouragingly selfish.

Fail.. I doubt you can even conceive the pressure, stress, hours, effort that the earthly leader of the Catholic Church puts in everyday

The fewer children born the fewer people put money in the collection plate when they grow up so the Vatican can get richer.

Mrs. 40 and I have the income and we probably would have made great parents. But we chose not to have kids. That does not mean we are greedy, it means we didn't choose to have children. The pope is clueless.

If you have kids the chances are good that they will contribute to Global Warming.

I don’t want kids and I’m 52.

So up yours Pope-inator....

At this point it seems silly to have kids.

But, if they come along then by golly I’ll welcome them.

Until then, the world is already over populated...

There are some people who should never have children. Every day on the news we see the consequences of those who had children they couldn’t or wouldn’t raise.
