Ray Rice Apologizes - Thanks Ravens
Yahoo Sports ^

Out-of-work running back Ray Rice has issued a statement thanking the Baltimore Ravens and apologizing for his actions in a February 2014 elevator incident with his now-wife that struck a serious chord with the nation a year ago.

Rice's high-profile case was the signature incident of a horrific domestic-violence swell among NFL players last season, and it raised awareness of what appeared to be a growing problem in the league.

For his part, Rice apologized for his actions and thanked the city of Baltimore and the team, which released him last season once the full tape of Rice hitting his wife was made public, for everything it did for him.

Just when no one is watching....

I predicted this months ago. And now the next step is signing with another team just in time for the March 1st start of Free Agency.

Jets anyone?

A cynical attempt to resurrect his career.

Count me a minority of one. What happened to Ray Rice was totally unfair. Granted his punishment was not harsh (assuming workplace punishment should even happen). But this is the guy who did everything that was asked of him, even married the girlfriend, and they appear as a couple saying they've worked it out through counseling. So the NFL is punishing someone who did everything that was asked of him? What message does that send? Double jeopardy is un-American.

Would Baltimore have fared better if Ray Rice were there for the playoffs?

Nobody is perfect. Spousal violence is awful and out of control. But not because of the way Ray Rice handled a very bad situation. Our society is demanding a level of perfection that doesn't exist, but only when it decides the person isn't somehow blessed and immune from controversy.

I agree with you totally. And the double jeopardy thing was appealed and Rice won. He has simply been released by Baltimore.

The NFL should not be the social conscience of America. Not at all. He’ll be back. Lots of teams could use him. After March 1st, watch what happens.

He just doing the image rehab tour that celebrities/entertainers go through to try and reestablish their career after a scandal. Given that his skills were already noticably eroding I’m betting that if he does catch on somewhere else it will be at the league minimum.

He’ll be back on a one-year contract somewhere, if he passes physical — but it will have to be a team like Oakland, where the fans don’t give a **** that ‘he knocked the ***** out’, or a team that needs a lot of help, like, oh, archrival Cleveland.

I wouldn’t say it’s cynical, he doesn’t have that many job skills. And he doesn’t have much longer to capitalize on the ones he has. When it’s time to get your career going again it’s time to get your career going again.

This was an over-reaction by the NFL flunky/leader, who is now unable to admit he panicked.

JESSE JACKSON CAN COMMIT THE CRIME OF FELONY BLACKMAIL TO A FORTUNE 500 COMPANY NO PROBLEM

AL SHARPTON CAN INCITE A RIOT THAT KILLS PEOPLE....NO PROBLEM

PC is destroying this country.

Life ain’t fair. Especially when you wind up being a posterboy for a brand of bad behavior. On the other hand he did bounce his girlfriend’s head off an elevator wall, so he’s a scumbag and I don’t really care if bad things happen to him after.

There was no double jeopardy, there’s nothing wrong with the team and the league suspending a guy. Falcons and the NFL did the exact same thing with Michael Vick. What he appealed was that the suspension had no end date, the judge reinstated him making him eligible to the league again, which is what Goodell wanted. After the outcry from the 2 game suspension Goodell didn’t want to be the one to let Ray back in the league, and he wasn’t, and I’m sure Goodell was extra happy that the reinstating judge was a woman.

They aren’t the social conscience, but bad publicity is bad business. They don’t really care what happens so long as their players don’t land on TMZ.

One of the ways Rice can reclaim his reputation is if he is seen dragging the guy who implemented the “No More” campaign out of the elevator by his hair.

Well, granted...would have been MUCH nicer if his "workplace punishment" would have been solely due to real jail time for assault...but ya know how that> works...with the "injustice" system doling out finger-slapping plea agreements secured by high-priced NFL-related attorneys.

But, given that he already got off easy in that regard, I suppose if, say, a professional athlete rapes his girlfriend -- violently assaulting her in the process -- that as long as he "marries" her...all is "well," eh???

"Double jeopardy is un-American."

So you have never heard of someone getting busted for drunk driving or doing drugs and then getting fired from their job? This type of stuff happens all the time in regular America. You run afoul of the law and you suffer at your job.

It’s cynical as in I don’t think he’s changed or learned anything. He’s only doing it to get back in the NFL’s good graces.

If he’s learned anything it’s because of the way the NFL kicked his butt. Only time will tell if he made the right changes or learned the right words.
