The unusually cold winter of Massachusetts produced an incredible phenomenon 100 miles southeast of Boston on the island of Nantucket recently: frozen waves, or, as some are describing them, Slurpee waves.
Photographer Jonathan Nimerfroh had just finished a photo shoot when he decided to check out the beach, since they surf there in the winter.

My son did the plunge when he was 13. It was cold! I probably shouldn’t write this but I had to laugh at how many of the men announced LOUDLY “no remarks, ladies... this is really COLD water!!”

As a young woman and living/working in the Seattle area, I decided one early spring day to go swimming off Point Defiance in Puget Sound.Oh my lord, it was so cold I could hardly breath in that cold water. Needless to say, I didn’t stay in long.

I didn’t see any vids at his site either.
He was *there* at the right time.
I wonder if Nantucket has got its power back yet?

This fall, we refused to let summer end.....we were in the water at Hammonasett in October [nice sunny day]; IIRC the water was in the 60s.
Kate Hepburn would jump in the water at Fenwick every day...even when she was into her 80s. ;)

Every so often, I’ll watch the Coast Guard rescue swimmer shows filmed in Alaska. Amazingly brave young men and women.

It would be a treat to see the frozen waves as someone walked “around” them videoing.
Still, the photographer’s pics were pretty “cool”.

Our 2 yellows would sit on the pool cover in the winter and hope it would flood....so they could cool their bellies.
