Commander Fred Calls Rush Limbaugh
The Rush Limbaugh Show (Live) ^ | 3/6/15

Posted on 03/06/2015 11:34:19 AM PST by pabianice

I was driving and listening to the radio when I heard it, so any misstatements are unintentional.

A caller, identifying himself as "Commander Fred," told Rush a story about Brian Williams under fire in the Middle east. According to Commander Fred, he was a C-130 pilot in the Middle East, with Brian Williams on board one day, when his aircraft came under fire. The first problem is that Commander is a Navy and Coast Guard rank, not one of the Army or Air Force, which would be what would have been flying Williams anywhere. Well, Commander Fred told a scary tale of how, when his aircraft had come under fire, he had to do a "Split-S", and make a "hard landing" that drove the landing gear up into the fuselage and "ground all four propellers down to the 'nub'", an aerial definition used by no branches of the military.

Entertaining call.

p.s. C-130s do not do split-ses.

It was a joke call - Rush wants folks to call in with phony stories on Fridays to make fun of Brian Williams.

Don’t worry, it was a Brian Williams joke call although not particularly funny.

Actually the Navy flies C-130s in support roles and a commander very well could have been making this flight (our Captain (Navy Captain, O-6) C.O. flew "his" P-3 (#1) once in a while, usually when going home from deployment).

A split-s from pattern altitude (or from any altitude) in a C-130 is what nailed the guy as a story-teller.

You do realize “Open Line Friday” is today....

Since the Williams incident, Rush has encouraged callers to do a “Brian Williams”....tell a whopper and sell it good.

It was probably a sarcastic/ farce “Open Line Friday” call.....I am fairly familiar with C-130s since my Dad flew them in Vietnam and I used to fall out the back end of them at low altitudes during the course of my own military career. If the wheels of a C-130 got driven up into the fuselage and the propellers worn down to nubs, it would have flattened the fuselage and the wings would have broken off. (The wings sit on top of the fuselage and the wheel wells are in the bottom of the fuselage). As survivable and as tough as the plane is, I seriously doubt anyone would survive such an accident in a C-130.

My great grandfather used to tell me stories of how Brian Williams courageously sailed on the battleship HMS Mauretania and how he’d bravely reported on the Crimean War. Even though they faced stiff opposition from the Armenian Navy they managed to lay siege to the Crimean fortress of Eben Emael. Williams volunteered to go with the Marine Corps Rangers when they went ashore.

Truly, it was inspiring to hear such an amazing story about such a brave, brave journalist.

Free Republic really does need an open friday bust on the past weeks news where one can repost the best freeper responses. I am sure we miss a good proportion of them and do so need our pioneer humor in these last days of the republic.

I don’t know where to put this, so here goes:

A B29 FLEW OVER MY HOUSE 20 minutes or so ago!!!
Holy Cr__! Bee-u-ti-ful!

If you want to go see it, it’s at the Camarillo Airport, right off the 101 Ventura Freeway, Camarillo, all this week-end, I believe.
Looking forward to more flyovers as ‘they’ are giving (paid) rides this weekend.

We’re taking 2 grandsons for a viewing this weekend.

Beside the fact the c130 has a high mounted wing.. to grind the prop to nubs (come in contact with the runway to the prop hubs)..the fuselage would be crushed to a pancake

Ohhh, I don’t know - sorry. I have to leave the house soon so I can’t research it for you.
You could call the airport or perhaps find the info on the airport web-site - ?

"Was it the CAF’s FIFI?"

Had to be. "FIFI" is the only one flying. "Doc" is supposed to fly sometime in the future.

‘Was Brian Williams flying it?’

Maybe - - - ! But yet maybe he went down with Harrison Ford - - - ?
I wig-wagged my arms hoping someone aboard was looking down.
The great August Camarillo Airshow airplanes go over our house for 2 days - I’m out waving The Flag - when a plane goes over.

Please note: There is NO constant airplanes flying over because of the near-by airport - just occasionally.
