NH Officials Mulling Options to curb Black Bear Population
WMUR ^ | April 27, 2015 | Paula Tracy

CONCORD, N.H. —New Hampshire officials said the state has too many black bears and is mulling its options on how to curb the population.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department says the state has 5,700 black bears roaming its wilderness. But officials want to trim that number to 4,700.

The Concord Monitor report the state could lengthen seasons for baiting, still hunting and hunting with hounds to help reach this goal.

The department introduced a draft 10-year plan that will drive management decisions for deer, black bears, wild turkeys, moose and small game.

The plan will not set the method or manner by which people can hunt.

Wow, these comments are a hoot. Here's a rational comment addressing wildlife management:

Well they calculate the amount of raw undeveloped acreage of land in NH, then they draw a statistical model of the black bears habitat, relying on previous studies to calculate it's size of roaming territory and counter that with the availability of food sources and locations. They also have to take into consideration health of the bear population, the nutritional food sources, and aging factors are taken into account. From there they set an outlier threshold of a minimum and a maximum and select an optimum number of estimate population to survive without becoming an endangered species or sickly species.

To which there is this libtard gem of a response:

There is exactly as much reason to cull the human population.

Come on Heather, lead by example!

I heard that there are oppressed brown bears on Kodiak Island and white bears in Hudson Bay who are looking to emigrate.

Isn’t diversity wonderful?

I had to post my comment about polar bears vs black bears.
Save the white ones kill the black ones.
No, people do not have a clue.
I had a friend who would mourn every dead deer by the side of the road. The idiot wanted fences built so the deer would not go on to the roads.
I asked her how on earth was that possible?
The nut also wanted the cows back in the mid-west, to have underground barns to go in when there were chances of tornadoes.
I kid you not!!!!

My cynical trend of thought makes me wonder how the author ‘got away’ with this article.

We all know it should be African American, not BLACK Bears-—should we not just feed, clothe and house them so as they may be ‘nice’ to the restuvus?

The AA Bear has not had the opportunities the White Bear has had so maybe this article should be rethought.

As to peteyd- mentioned putting up fences and building underground tornado shelters -
you may be onto something here as apparently moving the signs off curves and onto straightaways (various animal ‘crossings’) isn’t working as the deer and antelope don’t pay attention to them, Carnation would probably spearhead the tunnel project.

Better add the sarc...Just in case....<: <:

Properly handled and seasoned, bear meat is good eating.

Reminds me of the woman that called into some Midwestern police department to complain about the placement of Deer Crossing signs. She actually thought that the deer READ the sign and only crossed the highways where there were signs placed. The police uploaded the recorded message to the internet. It went viral. These people live among us and vote.

Sounds like my now deceased Mother-in-law. She could shed more tears over a fly or roach caught on flypaper than any person I have ever known.

She would bawl about the poor cow or chicken she was cooking in the skillet. didn’t stop her from eating it.

True on the call etc (I never took the time to see the ‘viral’) but I make outlandish statements like that all the time... mainly for the shock value and check the reaction of the people around me......

You know, like a zinger....sitting around and have someone say “another car hit a deer last night - to bad they can’t do something” etc etc....

My response to that is “The sign is in the curve, ought to move it to the straightaway”....Of course having a thoughtful look and the people know you are basically ‘bat shiite crazy’ also helps....<: <: <:
