Got to meet and talk to his groom when I worked at Belmont in the 70s. His nickname was “Shorty”. He also groomed Riva Ridge. My best friend at the time worked for Secretariat’s trainer’s son, Roger Laurin. RL trained Great Contractor. Lucien Lauren trained both Secretariat and Riva Ridge.
Secretariat’s time improved on each quarter of that race, which was on a wet track. What a horse.

I never heard that Sec’s groom was called Shorty. Are you talking about his stud groom? His racing groom was Eddie Sweat.
