There has been far too much Internet rumor and conjecture surrounding TPA and TPP. In fact, the TPA bill passed by the Senate has been available for public viewing since May 22, 2015.

Note: With passage of TPA, any subsequent trade bill requires a 60-day advanced public viewing.

You do understand it is the TPP that is being kept secret, correct?

He failed to mention that.

Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO and 2016 Republican presidential candidate, is calling on President Barack Obama to publicly release the text of Obamatrade immediately.

“Of course, I support free and fair trade,” Fiorina said in an email to Breitbart News.

But President Obama has made lofty promises before and we’ve learned with this White House that the devil is in the details. And the details are frequently very different than the lofty goals with which he describes the deal. So I’d like President Obama to tell us what’s in his trade deal before we grant him this broad fast track authority. So far, though, he’s been unwilling to do that and Hillary won’t even take a position on it. That should concern us. Mr. President, if you want TPA to pass, please just tell us what is in TPP.

Fiorina’s call for transparency on the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Pacific Rim trade deal comes right after the U.S. Senate passed Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) to fast track that deal—and right before the House is angling to take up the deal.

It also comes on the heels of revelations that several lieutenants of House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) — who supports the deal and is using his allies like Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Rules Committee chairman Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), the two specific lieutenants in question — haven’t read the text of TPP, which TPA would ensure the passage of.

As I mentioned before, with TPA, there is a 60-day window before any trade deal can be approved by Congress.

I encourage you to read the TPA bill that I linked to.

I hear this was Carly’s request. She obviously is seeking political opportunism because TPP is not as of yet publicly disclosed.

What she doesn’t understand (or prefers to not understand) is that once TPA is approved, there is a mandatory 60-day public viewing window for each and every trade agreement proposal including TPA

TPP is not as of yet publicly disclosed.

Yeah, that is the problem. People are being asked to trust President Obama to act in good faith when only idiots would do that.

And why would you impugn Ms. Fiorina's motives simply for asking that the terms of the TPP agreement be disclosed before the TPA is voted on. What are you afraid of?

No one should be required to trust Obama. But TPP is not even up for consideration at this point. With TPA approval, you or anyone else will have a 60-day period to review the TPP before acted upon by Congress.

I am not intentionally impugning Carly’s motives.

Maybe you were unconscious when you wrote this about 10 minutes ago:

Why do you opt to impugn my motives?

Carly is not involved with Congress and the legislation process. She is far removed from what is transpiring. It is very easy to make demands from the bleachers.

She is certainly not the only one who makes grandstanding comments.

To anyone who happens upon this thread, please note that the Trade Promotion Authority ("TPA") bill is NOT the trade agreement. The TPA is merely the fast-track law that will enable the trade agreement known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement ("TPP") to be voted on in Congress without any amendments being allowed to the agreement. Thus, the TPA will force a take it or leave it vote on the TPP which will make it much harder to oppose the bad provisions in the TPP.

This is why the TPP is being kept secret. There are bad things in the TPP that the administration doesn't want people to have time to react to and to try and change. We've seen before what happens, particularly with this administration, when a law is passed with little or no review. There is simply no reason why the fine print in the TPP agreement should not be disclosed now while our legislators have a chance to demand the bad things in the TPP either be removed or get changed.

There you go again not impugning Ms. Fiorina's motives. And for the record, I am not impugning your motivations. I am just respectfully suggesting that you are a very gullible person.

I think you may need more tin foil.

To anyone reading this thread, TPA is not a trade agreement. But it does insure that the public is allowed a 60 day viewing period before any subsequent trade bill, be it TPP or any other, is put to a vote by Congress.

TPA puts an trade deal in the hands of Congress, not the POTUS.

As for whether or not trade agreements are read or not is not verifiable.

I know Cruz read it because he said as much.

Given that under TPA, all trade agreements are to have a 60-day public viewing period, and TPP is not up for a vote today, why is the question of whether or a member of Congress has read it now?

She’s a citizen. She should have the right to read bills before congress. She shouldn’t be told to have blind trust. I sure don’t.

She will if TPA is passed.

She and everyone else will have a public viewing for 60-days.
