Twelve airline passengers who had stayed at the same hotel were sickened with diarrhea and vomiting aboard a Fiji Airways flight that landed at LAX on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Paramedics responded to the safe landing of Fiji Airways Flight 810, and the 261 passengers and 11 crew members were held on board while medical personnel cleared the flight, according to Nancy Castles, a spokeswoman for Los Angeles International Airport.
The flight departed Nadi International Airport in Fiji and arrived at LAX at 1:37 p.m., according to Fiji Airways website.
The last person left the plane at 2:12 p.m., Castles said

Ugh, those poor people. Sounds like food poisoning, or a very nasty flu bug. On an airplane (cramped spaces and very limited facilities for ah “managing the symptoms” of one’s sickness), no less.
Glad they’re all okay now, but man, that had to be one miserable flight for all involved...

That is not the right reply.
You should have said, “Yes, I’m serious. And don’t call me Shirley.”

It’s generally not a good idea to eat for the 36 hours right before a long flight from a country with questionable food quality - the 36 hours gives your body enough time to react if poisoned, so you can (hopefully) get a later flight once recovered. Once on the flight it’s fine, both because the food is usually better maintained, but more importantly, you’ll be home before the symptoms kick in.

I ate at a Burger King at LAX at the American Airline terminal before departing for Nashville. An hour into the flight the evidence of food poisoning became apparent. I suffered for almost three hours until I got to Nashville. It was food poisoning as my former job was investigating food borne outbreaks. I had mucoid bloody diarrhea for the next 24 hours. I won't eat before I fly ever again after that experience.
