McDonald's: We swear those 'Minions' aren't swearing
The Daily Times ^ | 7-10-2015 | ap

McDonald's says some customers have complained that a talking toy included in recent Happy Meals uses curse words.

The fast-food restaurant introduced a Happy Meal on July 3 with toys inspired by the movie "Minions."

The Oak Brook, Illinois-based company issued a statement saying the sounds the small yellow figures make are nonsense words, nothing offensive or profane. It says that the Minion Caveman toy makes three sounds — "para la bukay," ''hahaha" and "eh eh."

The statement says "a very small number of customers" have been in touch with the company about the toy. McDonald's said the promotion is supposed to run through the end of July.

"Our goal at McDonald's is to serve up food and fun for our valued customers, and we're glad to have the Minions on board," the company said.

A spokeswoman for McDonald's, Lisa McComb, says there are no plans to take the toys out of distribution.

"Minions," a prequel of the "Despicable Me" movies, premieres Friday.

How about swearing the burger meat and fries don’t largely consist of pulped wood/ soybean substitute?

The problem with gibberish is the human brains WANTS to hear words. It’s kind of like how we see faces. If we hear human noises the brain will assume it must be intelligible and try to fill in the blanks. Of course it can only fill in the blanks with what it’s got stored already.

Would you believe it if Robert Gibbs swore to it?

Could you cite the pulped wood accusation?

I worked there at 14 years old to 16 until 1966 for a dollar an hour. I know what real is.

Try this test. Go buy some fries from there and go home.

Drive maybe 5 miles. Open them up and tell me what they taste like? (Microwaving is cheating because what you’ll be tasting is the leftover heated oil) Cardboard, paper?

I’ve done this, many areas many places. Still nothing but cardboard taste. No animal fat in frying and nothing but scientific processing. Tastes like cellulose to me (which is cooked pulped wood). I once worked in a cellulose/pulp plant and you’d be surprised of the uses, BTW.

For legal purposes, all what I’ve said here is OPINION and mine only. Do with that what you will.

In other words, you have no actual evidence.

Meat, I can't answer for, but I've been to a plant that processes fries for McDonald's, and they're just as real as they can be. The oil they're fried in? That's a different matter.

I don’t need to cite evidence, since I did not make any accusations.

You know what “real is” yet you don’t have any evidence.

Nice job Colombo.

The oil they're fried in?

I don't know if there is a business reason to use the grease they do besides fear of the food Nazis, but food tastes better fried in animal fat.

No offense, but I’d have to see the real potatoes and the WHOLE process before I’d believe they were just cut, unprocessed potatoes.

I remember bringing up 100 lb bags of Idaho potatoes from the basement, abrading them and chuting them to the dual processing sinks, cutting them, washing them and then blanching them to be ready to final cook. That crap they have today is not the same - in no way. Oil or composition, it really doesn’t matter to me. They’re crap by the time you get them home.

BTW, back in the day, McD used fresh potatoes, which they peeled in a cylindrical device right in the building.

Yes, it does. I've tried to get the family to use tallow or lard. Bacon fat is nice, but they're squeamish. Of course, I grew up with a farming family, and they all used canola. Go figure.

I didn’t make an “accusation” as you say. Go back and reread what I posted.
