What bearing does the concealed carry laws of Kansas have to do with this story? None ?

The guy standing on his front porch when they yelled at him, made threats and threw rocks, bottles, bricks and chunks of concrete at him could have used a weapon. In fact, any of the victims could have used weapons.

Suppose you are out shopping or making a withdraw at an ATM and feral youth begin throwing bricks and bottles at you. Would a concealed weapon be pertinent in the situation?

Maybe you’d prefer to try to foster and understanding and validate their emotional state based on their socio-economic situation instead.

Well knock me down with a feather and throw chunks of concrete at me. Look at the pic of the 18 year old that was arrested.

Official: Players left chaperone before Wichita assaults

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn-- An official with a Minneapolis organization says a group of young basketball players skipped out on a chaperone before police say they were involved in several assaults in Wichita.

The Star Tribune reports the male players ranging from age 12 to 18 were in Wichita over the weekend for the Mid America Youth Basketball championships. The players are from Urban Stars Athletics, which is an arm of Minneapolis nonprofit Urban Ventures, and were staying in a downtown hotel.

Nonprofit CEO Timothy Clark said in an emailed statement that the players "skipped out" on a chaperone doing laundry after a team dinner. Wichita Police Lt. James Espinoza says the players threw rocks, bricks and chunks of cement at people as they walked Wichita streets Sunday night.

The players were arrested, and have been released to their parents.

Police records show the 18-year-old, Lucas Jarvi, was arrested for battery, aggravated assault and destruction of property.

Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett says his office has asked law enforcement to provide additional information, and any possible charges will be announced then.

So, if a state has a concealed carry law, somehow firearms are magically bestowed to all citizens?

Could have used a weapon? Yes, if they had one, I suppose they could have. Then again, if they had laser beams ... Again, the concealed carry law has ∅ bearing on this story. Thanks for playing though!

Father Of Teen Arrested In Assault Case Says Son ‘Defended Himself’

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The father of one of the teens arrested in Wichita, Kansas, over the weekend asks people to reserve judgment until the whole story is told.

Seven juveniles who are part of the Urban Stars basketball program in Minneapolis are accused of yelling and throwing things at people. They were in Kansas for a tournament. Eighteen-year-old Lucas Jarvi is a friend of one of the players. He was also arrested.

“The story I get from Lucas is he was attacked and he defended himself,” Bruce Jarvi said.

Jarvi said his son Lucas traveled to Wichita with his girlfriend’s family. Her brother plays on an Urban Stars basketball team.

“He kind of said the guys hadn’t won too many games and that he was enjoying himself,” Jarvi said.

At some point over the weekend Jarvi said his son called, saying they were having trouble with some homeless people.

“I told him, ‘Lucas, leave them alone — pretend they’re not even there,’” Jarvi said.

The next he heard, his son was under arrest, along with seven juveniles on the basketball team, ages 12 to 15.

The group is accused of threatening three people, then throwing rocks, bottles, bricks and concrete.

Another man told police the group pushed him and then threw rocks at him. Police think there may also be victims who are homeless.

“At first it’s kind of devastating,” Jarvi said. “A lot of thoughts run through your head. ‘What’s going on here?’ The only conclusion I came to was there has to be a bigger story to it than I’m understanding.”

Jarvi calls his son a typical 18-year-old who’s father to 2-year-old Lucas Jr. He said Lucas had run-ins with police as a juvenile, but this doesn’t sound like something he’d do.

“I don’t know if those people were unduly provoked, whatever caused it,” Jarvi said. “He doesn’t do that type of stuff here.”

Jarvi said Lucas is on probation for an incident as a juvenile.

Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett released this statement: “The Office of the District Attorney has asked law enforcement to provide additional information through follow-up investigation. When this information has been gathered and provided to our office, a final charging determination will be made. At such time, the charging determination will be announced.”

Now, a look in to the past.

Teen Prepares to Return Home After Crash

Almost two weeks later, the consequences of the crash that killed two people and seriously injured two other in northeast Minneapolis continue to reverberate through several families.

Bruce Jarvi is the single father to 13-year-old son, Lucas. Jarvi is preparing for his Lucas’ homecoming from Hennepin County Medical Center. Lucas was critically injured when the car he was riding in slammed into a utility pole in northeast Minneapolis early on the morning of July 13.

"They found out a week later that his jaw was broken in half,” said Jarvi. “They didn't even know it. He was in that coma state for two to three days."

According to Jarvi, Lucas and his friends stole his Chevy Impala while he slept. They were said to be going out for some joyriding and a trip to a nearby McDonald’s. Authorities estimate the teens were speeding through the neighborhood at more than 70 miles an hour. Alcohol was also believed to have played a role.

On Saturday, friends, family and fellow rugby players came to say goodbye to Patrick Watkins at his funeral. Also killed was Duane White. His pals knew him as "Tank."

Another teen in the vehicle was recently released from the hospital and is expected to be in a wheelchair for upwards of a year.
