To complete the AP’s lazy and inept reporting ... over that past 15 years an average of 7 cases the plague per year are documented in the US. The min and max for the same period are one and 17 respectively.
The reporter is afraid or not allowed to use the ‘B’ word; that being The Bubonic Plague. This still has the potential to devastate any community if enough people contract the virus at the same time.
There’s another “B” associated with that disease, but that might be “racist” these days.
Yeah, but it’s only likely to reach epidemic status in places without modern sanitation, like India, for example.

There are known plague zones all over the country. Generally there’s signage in the area that says it’s a plague zone and if you experience any flu like symptoms within a couple of weeks of being there go to a doctor immediately and tell them you were in a plague zone. It’s very curable, if you act quickly.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
