NFL Power Rankings: You'll hate this list -- unless you're a Cheeshead
CBS Sports ^ | 8 Sep 15 | Pete Prisco

There will be a lot of you scratching your heads when you see my first Power Rankings for the regular season.

You will then do one of two things: Get mad and put a not-so-nice comment on the bottom, or think I just jinxed your team's chances.

These rankings reflect what happened when I played out the entire 2015 season. That's why teams that you would expect to be in the top five aren't there, a team like the Seattle Seahawks.

They are ninth in these rankings because I expect them to be a wild-card team, not win the division. The Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers are in the third and fourth spots because I think both teams are up for big seasons and will push for a Super Bowl.

The top two spots go the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots. Even without Jordy Nelson, the Packers will be tough to stop and the defense is good enough. The Patriots have Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski and a lot of young talent on defense. That's good enough for me, especially with the overblown Deflategate stuff now a thing of the past.

All these good teams do have issues, but I think the Packers and Patriots will be able to get around theirs the best.

I don’t think the Steelers and the Colts are as good as this guy thinks they are.

"Even without Jordy Nelson..."

Not a Packers fan, but as a football fan I loved watching Nelson, (one of the handful of non-Pats I cheer for) - I'll miss him this season.

Disclaimer - cheesehead here

While these lists are silly, I’ll jump in and say that the Giants and Eagles should both be about three places from the bottom, Dallas should be no higher than mid-pack and SF should be in the top ten.

KC fan,

I think they will be better than .500, and should be a few slots higher. Still, I expect another glorious mediocre season.

As with all such rankings, bias creeps in. New England has "lots of young talent" on defense. Yet the Steelers are going to struggle with their new talent on D? Funny how new guys are an asset on one team, and a negative on another.

Full disclosure, I'm a Steelers fan. I think they are going to struggle more than he thinks. I think the #4 ranking is probably too kind. They are probably going to be lucky to make a wildcard spot this season. They have a lot of new guys on D, a new system (zone, after years of MoM), and an offense that looks to start off (as usual) somewhat slow and run in fits and starts... We'll see how things start tomorrow night...

As a fellow Steelers fan, I must unfortunately agree with you. The Steelers are not as good as most think they are. The offense will be good, but it may struggle a bit without Bell and Bryant for the first two and four games respectively. The defense is likely to be a disaster unless Butler has something up his sleeve that they haven’t shown all preseason. I can’t imagine any possible way they’ll go into New England tomorrow and be competitive. They do have some winnable games after that, but I’d be really surprised if they win more than 9 games this year.

My Saints 21st? That’s a pretty “out there” call to project any Drew Brees led team to finish 7-9, or 6-10. Esp when 6 of our games are against NFC-S opponents.

We will see where they are at in January and should compare it to this list.
