Except that in Japanese ‘father’ is ‘chichi,’ pronounced “chee-chee,” though the more formal word is ‘oto-san’ (oh-TOE-sahn). Mother, BTW, is ‘haha’ or obaa-san.

Not to nitpick, but mother is “okaasan.”
“Obaasan” is grandmother.
