The other day I was watching a rerun of a popular TV show from the past. Suddenly it occurred to me that this was the most CONSERVATIVE TV show ever despite the fact that it wasn't specifically a political show.
Okay, I'll give you the name: DRAGNET. I was watching the color version that came back to the airwaves in 1967. Detective Joe Friday didn't fool around. He was all business with NO apologies in enforcing the law. Also notable was how he sneered at hippies, drug addicts, or (in the case of the episode I was watching) idiotic teenyboppers who shoplifted strictly to be members of a dopey club.

Before “Dragnet” debuted on television, it was an outstanding—and very conservative—radio show. Jack Webb was still Joe Friday on the radio. Excellent stuff!
Honestly, the most conservative show I can think of is “Leave It To Beaver”.
I remember a rerun of Naked City featuring a young Dustin Hoffman.
Family Ties. Although they ridiculed Alex, his rebel conservatism came through, and ended up making the hippie attitude of his parents look ridiculous.
Maybe not quite as conservative as Dragnet, but the Waltons, and Duck Dynasty merit mentioning.
Magnum PI was pretty conservative in a non-political way.
Andy Griffith Show. Delightful.
50’s Hwy Patrol show with Broderick Crawford.
The original “Dragnet” (some episodes available on YouTube) was sort of a film noir feel to it. When it returned to the airwaves in 1967, Joe Friday was battling the 60s counterculture of hippies, drug addicts, etc..
HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL
VICTORY AT SEA
THE HONEYMOONERS
Interesting, because Michael J. Fox has said that he found the character of Alex unlikable. Yet somehow Alex came off as likable to many viewers. Same with Archie Bunker. He was played by a very liberal actor and was supposed to be unlikable, yet many viewers liked him and agreed with him.
Fun Fact: Some episodes of Hwy Patrol had to be filmed on backroads because Crawford lost his driver's license due to DUI.
Eventually Sheriff Andy got a women’s libber girlfriend and the show kind of went downhill after that. I always liked his original girlfriend better.
I thought “The Waltons” was a loving ode to FDR’s New Deal.
Combat and Twelve O’Clock High were pretty watchable.
Fun Fact: The actress who portrayed Aunt Bee later settled down in the town upon which Mayberry was based...Mt. Airy.
The family sitcoms of the past such as “Leave it to Beaver” are all conservative compared to what we see on TV nowadays.
All of those shows of the past portrayed family values and did not push the bizarre or immoral and bad behaviors which are pushed on TV nowadays.
And remember a mindless show such as “Gilligan’s Island”? It was a mindless comedy show. It was good for some laughs but was not pushing any agenda.
Can you imagine “Gilligan’s Island” today? My God, do you think that Ginger and Mary Anne would be roommates in their own hut? Would the professor always be trying to get in their pants? Would Gilligan be the obligatory homosexual character???
