Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones backed defensive lineman Greg Hardy on Friday after photos of Hardy’s bruised ex-girlfriend from a domestic violence incident surfaced on the sports-oriented website Deadspin.

*snip*

"We do not condone domestic violence," Jones said. "We entered into the agreement with Greg fully understanding that there would be scrutiny and criticism."

I can see why the Cowboys would stand by Hardy. It's not like he did something repulsive, like beating up a woman. Oh, wait. He did beat up a woman. But there will be scrutiny and criticism. Alrighty then.

A question for North Carolina Freepers. Hardy's attack on the woman happened in North Carolina. But there was no prosecution as the woman was bought off, and declined to testify.

In many states, domestic violence cases are considered offenses against the state. It doesn't matter whether or not the victim wants to bring charges. Is this the case in North Carolina?

She could have hit him first, or it could have been an accident of some kind. If there were no witnesses, who knows....

Hardy “was suspended most of last year and for four games this season... under the league’s domestic violence policy, but didn’t face criminal punishment.”

You missed a point. The woman declined to appear in court because she reached a private settlement with Harvy. In other words, she was bought off.

So yeah, I'm not all that worked up over the victim. But I am a little worked up over how money and power excuses criminal behavior. Same as it ever was, I know.

As one who lived in Dallas during the era of Tom Landry and Roger Staubach, it’s hard for me to be a Cowboy fan today.

I know folks who refer to them as the “Dallas Convicts”.

So sad.

Speaking of sports, I’m watching the Florida/Vanderbilt game and the commentator’s voice is pitched around a high C. My god, it’s irritating.

The Cowboys will probably cut him as soon as they can replace him.

In the meanwhile, they will support Hardy since it will hurt the Cowboys season if they cut him. That means it will cost Jerry Jones more money if he cuts Hardy now.

Hardy will probably continue to play as long as he is a top Defensive player in the league. It’s ALWAYS about the money no matter what they say.

Wasn’t Golden Richards busted for indecent exposure? And you know Hollywood Henderson snorted cocaine during games from an inhaler he hid in his pants, right?

Tom Landry and Roger Staubach were an incredible duo.

They were two key people in the 1970s that helped create America's love affair for the Dallas Cowboys.

The fans of the Dallas Cowboys LOVE THEM to this day, and all their opponents HATE THEM.

Even NFL sports fans are NOT neutral with the Dallas Cowboys. It's a love/hate thing.

They are the New York Yankees of the NFL.

Jones is a (famous)Billionaire from Texas. If he didn’t have a nice looking whore around now and again, I’d question his sexuality. A little creepy that many of them are probably young enough to be his granddaughter though...

lol

(I think he’s married too)

To a large extent, you are correct. And if this had been a purely civil matter, or not one of violence, I'd be agreeing with you completely.

Person A plows into Person B's car, then offers Person B $20,000 not to press charges. Person B accepts. Case closed.

But Person A beats Person B, then offers Person B $20,000 not to press charges. Person B accepts. That's sort of like buying an indulgence for a great sin. Doesn't sit right with me. Your mileage may vary.
