The Hostess Twinkies from the 1970s and before were the best. They did something different to them starting in the 1980s. But in the old days, the Twinkies were moister and a lot less "spongy". Bits of the yellow cake would stick to the white cardboard underneath and as a child, I'd even lick the cardboard.

Also the chocolate cupcakes with the frosting in the white zigzag going across it. I used to peel the tops of them off and stack them up. Then after eating the cakes, I'd jam all those frosting layers into my mouth and experience the dizziness of a sugar high. It's amazing I never developed diabetes.
