Although I'm (stupidly) still not a gun owner, I would like to join a pro-2A lobby to preserve my right to BECOME one. But which one to join?
The largest is the NRA, but they endorse sh**s like Harry Reid.
Suggestions?
2nd Amendment Foundation is the one that has been winning all the lawsuits, Heller, etc.
They are definitely worthy of donations. In full disclosure, I have sent them so much money they sent me a plaque.
The NRA is a single interest advocacy group. Guns rights is all they consider. That’s why they “endorse sh**s like Harry Reid”. If you can learn to overlook that, you’ll get access to all kinds of resources should you ever decide to break down and actually buy a gun. Plus, it is kinda the elephant in the room.
The SAF - Second Amendment Foundation - is also a great group. They are the lawyers like Alan Gura that win the 2a cases that keep our rights intact.
Buy a gun - learn to use it. Now is the time.
I'd suggest joining both NRA and GOA. Two barrels better than one...
NRA is crooked, as shown by their choice of David Keene as leader.
But NEVER the NRA
They all but endorsed him. They backed off at the last minute because people like me, a 30 year member, were calling and dumping our memberships over it.
What they did do was endorse two incumbent dem congresscritters in my state, one of whom was Ken Salazars brother, during that same election year.
The Second Amendment Foundation (saf.org) is also 501(c)(3), so you get more bang for your buck.
Their founder and main guy Alan Gottlieb can be heard frequently on Armed American Radio.
I’m a Life Member of the NRA and have never had a reason to regret it except they are unremitting in their pursuit of more of my money. This year they are raising Life Member dues (for the first time in years, to be honest) and I’m considering bailing to either the SAF or GOA. The NRA is the Big Dog in the fight with the gun grabbers, and provides far and away the most resources, but their incessant begging for money is wearing me down. They are all valid 2nd Amendment advocates. Maybe join all three and see which you find most beneficial to you.
I assume by “leader” you mean President? In that case it is Allan Cors. But Keene was Pres. of NRA from 2011-2013.
Yeah, the NRA is the big dog but they are not agile and too willing to compromise for my taste.
The NRA is an establishment lobbying group that seems to do a lot of fund-raising, but as another poster pointed out regarding their almost-final endorsement of Harry Reid, it will to do a calculated sell-out to progressives from time to time. But the progressive media and your common DemocRat voter are scared to death of them, so on that basis alone you should be a member.
The GOA, on the other hand, is a steadfast, no compromise gun rights organization that does a lot more grass-roots work than NRA. They also often fly under the progressive radar. Yet every time I get upset enough to write my legislative respresentative about something, here comes an e-mail from GOA with the letter already correctly formatted and addressed for me! Join GOA, too, and get on their electronic mailing list.
If it came down to a choice between the two, I’d probably go with GOA first.
NOLA Police Chief announced on Swept. 8, 2005 “...only police could have guns.” NRA and SAF filed suit in Federal Court on Sept. 22, 2005.
Should read “Sept.” Also, both RKBA groups asked for injunction stopping this foolishness.
For real change, look at your local state UNAFFILIATED activist groups (example: http://www.azcdl.org).
NRA affiliates (usually “rifle and pistol” groups) must dance to the NRA’s tune for yearly grants and are more hunter oriented.
That said, I recommend every gun owner belong to the NRA because of their lobbying power at the national level.
None. Just go spend that money on firearm related things. Commerce beats lobbyists every time.
Harry Reid voted for two of Obama’s appointees for SCOTUS. Both airheads. Antis’. Etc. That pretty much ended his friendship with NRA.
Being a member of both, I get more mail than I feel is necessary...
Yes, but that is what I mean about being agile. “We are studying it” was not the response that should have been heard from the NRA on the 9th.
I’m going to advocate that you join the NRA. In our corrupt political system, money and numbers speak the loudest. The NRA has the most members, and the most money, and that equals the most political pressure. Adding to that cannot hurt.
