Former Red Sox third baseman Frank Malzone dies at 85

The Red Sox on Tuesday confirmed the death of third baseman Frank Malzone, who played for the team from 1955 to 1965.

Malzone, 85, was a six-time all-star who had a career .274 batting average with 133 home runs and 728 RBIs.

Malzone played the final season of his career in 1966 with the California Angels.

I always had lots of Frank Malzone cards. Could not give them away in New York. Good player though.

One of the best 3rd baseman I’ve ever seen. He played on the 1950s Red Sox teams with Jimmy Piersall and Ted Williams.

Bet he had a good sense of humor. Was he of Italian lineage?

Not many words or names rhyme with calzone.

Condolence to family and friends of Frank Malzone. Great ballplayer. (Detroit Tiger fan) I remember listening to the Tiger-Red Sox games on the radio at my grandmother’s house in the 1950’s. The Red Sox were always tough to beat.

Another Tigers fan who remembers Frank Malzone quite well. Didn’t realize he was that old. RIP and condolences to his loved ones.

I grew up watching Frank Malzone play for the Sox. Rest In Peace, Frank, and our prayers are with your loved ones. Thanks for the memories.
