METAIRIE, La. (AP) -- Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said Saturday the idea of religious neutrality is not grounded in the country's constitutional traditions and that God has been good to the U.S. exactly because Americans honor him.
Scalia was speaking at a Catholic high school in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie, Louisiana. Scalia, who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986 is the court's longest serving justice. He has consistently been one of the court's more conservative members.
He told the audience at Archbishop Rummel High School that there is "no place" in the country's constitutional traditions for the idea that the state must be neutral between religion and its absence.

Really all the Constitution says is that the Federal government can not establish a national church.

The writings of the Koran then take a much darker turn, and all the references to the conversion, enslavement or killing of all non-Muslim people date from this period.
The words of the Koran paint a picture of an individual sinking into a deeply altered mental state, with little remaining grasp of reality.

Actually a careful reading of the 1st Amendment shows that what it does is take the question of the establishment of religion out of the Federal jurisdiction and reserve it to the states. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." Congress cannot establish a national church or forbid a state from establishing a local state religion. There were indeed a few state established churches for a number of years after the ratification of the 1st Amendment.
So there could actually be a state that is Muslim if that state’s constitution does not prohibit a state religion?
My Southern-born & bred father always said “Eye-talian” and there was no correcting him.
So let me say, for an Eye-talian, Scalia is pretty darn good.

This is what the Constitution would allow. I am not arguing that state established religions would be a good idea, only that what an honest reading of the Constitution actually says.

the next step for a lot of people the past 20 years was southern new jersey a lot of people from those areas lost on 9/11

Yeah, BUT...
Unlike a Christian or Jewish, etc. state, a "Muslim state" would in all likelihood establish Sharia Law in place of the existing legal constructs, and I doubt the state would elect Congressmen and Senators to send to Washington, since Sharia Law recognizes no higher authority.
A Muslim state would be a contradiction in terms -- it would HAVE to secede from the Union.
I grew up back east and found the Italian guys cocky and somewhat intimidating. When I walked by a group I got the long up-and-down and the comment or whistle. I never liked them much.
My Italian husband never knew his Italian father and he is a different type. Quiet and humble—or have I just beaten him down? Can’t remember; it’s been so long. ;)
