Shake Shack to Open in Downtown LA (In 'N Out Much Better)

When word arrived in April of 2015 that Shake Shack, that burger-scented, milkshake-flavored, obsessed-over eatery from the other coast would soon arrive in Southern California, some fast-foodies had to think that it was an April Fool's Joke of some sort. The joke was on nobody, however, and the ketchup was on the fries, for Shake Shack really and truly had sights set on West Hollywood, and Glendale, for down-the-road openings. Those debuts are still-down-the-road-ish, but take happy heart, downtowners, for you're about to get the third SoCal Shake Shack at 801 Hill Street.

One of few things I truly enjoyed about living on the Left Coast was In 'N Out Burger and Pollo Loco. I finally tried Shake Shack when I was in DC recently. I am sorry Shake fans but that was the most over-hyped burger I ever ate especially for the price. In 'N is much better on top of which it is a cheaper burger.

Never had Shake Shack, but I tried In-N-Out when I was in California in the summer. It was good but nothing amazing. I ordered the 3x3 Animal Style. The young lady who took my order was extremely nice though and very excited that it was my first trip to an In-N-Out.

My favorite burger chain in Southern California is Polly's Pies, followed by "Ptomaine" Tommy's.

My favorite burger in DC was to be found at the Hawk ‘n’ Dove on Capitol Hill, but it’s gone through changes of ownership, remodeling and probably some menu changes since I last ate there.

I could eat Tommy’s until I explode...but only at the Beverly Blvd location.

“I could eat Tommy’s until I explode...but only at the Beverly Blvd location.”

No one has ANY IDEA what you’re referring to...even though I went there virtually every day for a year.

...by the way, don’t sell Roscoe short. It’s my #2 location.

Been to the Roscoe one too. I used to work up the street from there back in the 80’s.

OUTSTANDING - I order extra onions there, I get them!

Not a great area (just like downtown), but then I tell people that Tommy’s has standards for their locations, which is why they’re not on West Side, LOL.
