Noela Rukundo was visiting her native country of Burundi in January 2015 for her stepmother’s funeral when she was kidnapped, the mother of eight recently said, according to the Washington Post....
The Washington Post reported Kalala paid the kidnappers $7,000 in Australian dollars (about $5,000 in U.S. dollars) in the murder-for-hire plot, but the kidnappers did not believe in killing women.
Instead, they kept the cash and set Rukundo free. They also gave her evidence to incriminate Kalala.
Five days later, Rukundo stepped out of a car at her own funeral and approached her husband.
"Surprise! I'm still alive!" she said to the father of three of her children. Frightened, he screamed and asked her if she was a ghost.

Well that just goes to show you - when you're engaging a kidnapper and a murderer-for-hire, at least find an honest, law-abiding one.

This one is so crazy it just might be true.
Not like the usual retreads that come out of China.
Burundi? What are the chances they were ‘asylum’ seekers in the first place...and then going back home for a vacation?
From all I’ve heard Australia has pretty tough standards for regular immigration. I doubt there’s any great need for Burundians.

After two days, they set her free on the side of a road, but not before giving her a cellphone, recordings of their phone conversations with Kalala, and receipts for the $7,000 in Australian dollars they allegedly received in payment, according to Australia’s The Age newspaper.
“We just want you to go back, to tell other stupid women like you what happened,” Rukundo said she was told before the gang members drove away.
