Why doesn't 4.9% unemployment feel great?
cnn money ^ | 2-6-2016 | Heather Long

1. Only 62.7% of adult Americans are working. The so-called Labor Force Participation rate hasn't been this low since the late 1970s.

...

2. Long-term unemployment is still high. ... About 2.1 million Americans have been unable to get a job for over half a year. The government calls these people the "long-term unemployed."

...

3. Wage growth is anemic. ... The typical take home pay (often called "median income" by the Census Bureau) is about the same today as it was 20 years ago, once you adjust for inflation.

In other words, middle class families aren't really getting ahead. They're just getting by.

Because 100 million people are not working so the REAL unemployment is about 45%.

Nobody believes these numbers when virtually every family in urban America has at least one unemployed/underemployed worker. Illegal immigrants account for most of the job growth and service sector jobs (waiters/retain clerks) account for the low-wage statistics.

That’s about the gist of it. These people have figured out to tap into the entitlement gravy train and decided there is no way in hell they’re going back to work. They’re getting paid not to work. Sure there are things like SS and disability, etc. that could be considered, but the overall impact is that there are millions upon millions upon millions who are settling for less. For what they get, all they have to do is go vote for it.

Why is Hillary running to improved Barack’s ‘great’ economy for America’s working families?

As a professional who has an advanced degree, is white, male, heterosexual and 50+, I can’t even get an interview for anything.

4.9% UE rate is another Onambla lie.

In other words, middle class families aren’t really getting ahead....................... LOL, because you are making 5-10 times what your parents made back when they were your age doesn’t mean you are doing better. Gas isn’t 22 cents a gallon, there are no 5 cent cigars, 5 cent candy bars, 15 cent hamburgers, or 59 cent a lb. steak. So you if make 50K a year today, its like 10K in the late 60’s. Does your new Chevy cost $2500, or a new 3BR home cost $15,000? Basically the middle class is only spinning wheels while the cost of living grows, thinking they are better off. Wait till that $15hr. gets into play, the beat will go on.

You have to be an Obama acolyte or a certified member of the MSM to believe any statistics or data released by Federal agencies that have been controlled by Obama commissars for the past seven years. The declining price of oil and other industrial commodities underscore the deep worldwide recession. The US economy sits on a foundation of borrowed money, printed money, continued deficit spending and the gimmickry of the Federal reserve. Heretofore anxious world investors “invested” their money in the US due to its reputation for respecting property rights and the rule of law. The US economy is now suffering from a withdrawal of foreign capital as cash strapped Saudis, Chinese and others are liquidating their portfolios to raise cash. Soon the price od premiere real estate in major cities, previously underwritten by foreign demand, will also drop. Sadly the results of this brutally anti capitalist administration are now apparent .Things will worsen.

It’s not just in the urban environment, it’s out here in the ‘sticks’ aka rural environment. With an over 60% rate of people in my county getting ‘assistance’ of one sort or another it’s nearly heartbreaking. The school district even has free lunch for ALL students now, even those whose parents/guardians can afford the lunches.

If the republicans were smart, they would find a 3rd party to tabulate the numbers and uses those numbers over and over. If so, the credibility of the numbers the administration is pumping out would begin to be questioned.

The candidates running need to start using the “real unemployment numbers.” The American people would get it because they’re the ones feeling the misery.

If the repubs don’t do it, a few years down the road when you cannot spin the numbers any longer, the true numbers will start to come out. It will be someone else in the White House holding the bucket full of BS. The media will then say the unemployment numbers were great under “obama the great.”

The Republican Party isn’t smart. They should find a 3rd party independent source and all the candidates should repeat the real numbers over and over.

I’m not saying in any way that this problem is strictly ‘urban’ or black or minority. There may be higher percentages of each group represented, but the overwhelming raw numbers are white people IMO.

I live in a county in north Georgia with 96% white, 1% black and 3% other (that’s Mexicans to you out of staters).

My county has 20% of its population on SNAP. If there’s that much on SNAP, then the numbers for EITC, Section 8, TANF, WICs, SSI, SSDI, etc. are comparable.

I see it in every rental trailer I pass by (you can tell by the inspection stickers), every day at Walmart, Kroger and Ingles. If you want to shop undisturbed there don’t go before 10-11:00AM. Getting up earlier than that upsets them and damages their poor little psyches.

As for SS? My wife recently had to apply and got the option to go to Marietta or Gainesville. I told her you DO NOT WANT to go to the Marietta Office. Every lowlife scum lard ass (SSDI), baby mama (SSI), decrepit foreigner (to get minimum quarter SS, there with their citizen kids) and no good jam it up. That she wouldn’t see anyone that looked like her. I told her that it would be the same in Gainesville but much less. She took my advice. First words out of her mouth when she came back? “You were 100% right.”

Inflation distorts everything.

Its one reason why Liberals love it. It makes people think they are getting ahead while they are actually falling behind.

Its also a giant transfer of wealth from the Middle Class to the Government and the Rich.
