Italian mountaineer conquers Nanga Parbat but 10 minutes was all he could allow himself to enjoy his achievement
Simone Moro stood atop Pakistan's "Killer Mountain" last week and observed the curve of the Earth -- a view which had never been seen by anyone in winter until the climber and his team conquered Nanga Parbat.
The expedition had taken three months and came more than six decades after the mountain was first summited, but 10 minutes was all Moro could allow himself to enjoy his achievement.
"Now you have to come back... But you are so completely exhausted," the Italian mountaineer explained in an exclusive interview with AFP, saying he was afraid of losing concentration on the long, dangerous descent.

Nice and thanks for the link. As an ex Mountaineering climber, it good to read about others exploits. I vividly recall doing the North face of the Grand Teton and would love to do it again.
Not to be too cynical, but it’s fortunate these climbers were not attacked by the lower level paki-islamo filth that sometimes kills people just for the fun of it.
I think I would approach from the north side.
After coughing up edema, swallow it quickly. It’s nutritious and will reinvigorate you.
;-)
Seriously? This guy honestly believes that it is equally likely that muslim militants will murder 10 mountain climbers from time to time in the US?
Well Mr. Moro (for want of an "n", his name was fail), not just yet, but Obamao is working on it.
Moro, who made his second attempt at the mountain the following year, dismissed any security fears, saying the threat of militancy in Pakistan is not worse than in the United States, Britain or Italy.
Summiting this 'Killer Mountain' without using oxygen obviously has impaired his thinking.
I suspect he was comparing the 3000 of 9-11 vs the 10 on the mountain.
