Culture Rot: Donald Trump Is the Effect, Not the Cause

Culture Rot: Donald Trump Is the Effect, Not the Cause ANDREW MCCARTHY

A sick society breeds gutter politics. A few years back, I began reliving, in reverse, the most treasured part of my upbringing. On sunny summer Sundays, my son, age seven and falling in love with baseball, would curl up next to me on the couch to watch the game. The American ritual of a man passing on to his boy not just the national pastime but a cultural heritage; the odd bits of hard-knocks wisdom sprinkled around the infield-fly rule.

There was even symmetry across the decades: The Mets providing just enough drama to break your heart in the end. There was, however, a vexing intrusion on the ritual: the remote control. And not because we didn’t have a remote control for our black-and-white RCA TV set in the Bronx circa 1966; it was because we didn’t need a remote-control back then. And not because there were only six other channels, as opposed to today’s 600; it was because, as his wide-eyed seven-year-old was taking it all in, my dad wasn’t worried about having to switch off Viagra commercials between innings.

So what is the natural progression from turning the campus and pop culture over to Amerika-hating radicals, to the vigorous years-long media defense of Bill Clinton’s right to turn the White House into a cathouse, to the inability of a father to watch baseball with his young son at one o’clock on a Sunday afternoon without being ready to address erectile dysfunction? It is the cretinous Donald J. Trump campaign.

It is a political-debate dais, once the majestic lyceum of Lincoln and Douglas, on which a debauched near-septuagenarian touts his, shall we say, Trump Tower as a credential for the most important political office in the world.

I live in what could be termed a Hillbilly area and the best way to get us to do something is to tell us to *not* do something.

How's the beverage where you are...by repute that is?

This may be true, but it’s certainly not the first time this has happened.

Have no fear, Rush will be breathlessly citing his good buddies article on Monday to try and validate his own disgust with Trump.

Sorry Rush and Andy, but we’ve had it with the establishment and decorum! We need somebody to come in a crush some RINO balls in the meat grinder...and that guy is Donald J. Trump!

Get used to it...Trump isn’t going anywhere!

You better get used to it, because he’s going to be the 45th President of the United States.

Rosie O’Donnell says she’s going to leave if he’s elected, maybe you could see if there is any room in the seat next to her.

I’m sure she’d let you have an extra pork chop.

While that may be absolutely true, you cannot get there by using a RINO to defeat a RINO.

Yup.

For myself, I’m looking for a pit bull, not a preacher.

We’re running out of time.

People who never saw Nelson Rockefeller campaign in the 50s think Trump is really “Norm.”

Care to explain these RINO positions of Mr. Haney:

1) Worked with Paul Ryan to pass TPA

2) Voted for the Corker Iran Bill

3) Supported an increase in H1B Visas

4) Went to the Southern Border with Glenn Beck to very

5) Engaged in slimy behavior in Iowa (sleazy mailers, lied about the Carson campaign leaving the primary)

Trump has been a private citizen; Mr. Haney did the above mentioned things as a sitting U.S. Senator.

Anxiously awaiting your B.S. excuses for Mr. Haney’s very RINO positions.

has advocated muzzling the Press.

That would be nice. Start with all the sycophants who never ask Obama anything but puffball questions. Shut them all down.

Is Trump a pit bull, or all bark and no bite? Could be. Or he could be another Arnold.

I’m not going to read the article.

Culture rot? No, ruling body rot. There is a Uniparty who has control of our political situation, our laws, our freedom. They give mere lip service to the Constitution. THAT ROT, controlling our elections with bought and paid for candidates, caused the voters, you know, WE, THE PEOPLE, to turn to a strong person of independent means to try and stop them.

Culture is separate.

The NR is part of the cabal. Couldn’t exist without it. Almost all media are.

We’ve had presidents keep to the decorum until the cameras were out of the room. Is that all these people want?

Trump, in his one on one interview with Hannity a couple weeks ago, told him he knows exactly how to behave in any social situation and has proven it a million times over in the charity and high society circuit. He feels there is no time right now for flowery BS. As President, he will know how to behave with the utmost of decorum at fancy events. No big.

You might want to check your own before throwing mud.

As I have said...

If Trump gets the nomination, you will have the biggest case of buyer remorse in the history of US elections, but for some reason, which I view as psychologically induced, you cannot see it much less accept it.

You`re right, he is not an element in the development of the cultural rot that also plagues the US. But as an admitted briber of crooked politicians, he is very much a part of the systemically ingrained political rot.

The major causative factor in what has so many angry at this point in US history is the fact politicians won`t listen to the voters because they`re bought and sold to special interests.

Obfuscate, rationalize, and excuse this behavior all you want, it is none the less, based on his own confessions, the truth.
