Suicide of GOP -- or its rebirth?
WND ^ | 3/17/2016 | Pat Buchanan

Those Republicans who assert that a Trump nomination would be a moral stain, a scarlet letter, the death of the party, they are most likely describing what a Trump nomination would mean to their own ideologies and interests.

A Trump campaign across the industrial Midwest, Pennsylvania and New Jersey featuring attacks on Hillary Clinton’s support for NAFTA, the WTO, MFN for China – and her backing of amnesty and citizenship for illegal immigrants, and for the Iraq and Libyan debacles – is a winning hand.

Lately, 116 architects and subcontractors of the Bush I and II foreign policy took their own version of the Oxford Oath. They will not vote for, nor serve in a Trump administration.

Talking heads are bobbing up on cable TV to declare that if Trump is nominee, they will not vote for him and may vote for Clinton.

This is not unwelcome news. Let them go.

Their departure testifies that Trump is offering something new and different from the foreign policy failures this crowd did so much to produce.

The worst mistake Trump could make would be to tailor his winning positions on trade, immigration and intervention – to court such losers.

Pat nails it again.

"Indeed, only the fear that Trump can win explains the hysteria in this city. Here is the Washington Post of March 18: “As a moral question it is straightforward. The mission of any responsible Republican should be to block a Trump nomination and election.”

The Orwellian headline over that editorial: “To defend our democracy, the GOP must aim for a brokered convention.”

Beautiful. Defending democracy requires Republicans to cancel the democratic decision of the largest voter turnout of any primaries in American history. And this is now a moral imperative for Republicans.

Like the Third World leaders it lectures, the Post celebrates democracy – so long as the voters get it right.

Whatever one may think of the Donald, he has exposed not only how far out of touch our political elites are, but how insular is the audience that listens to our media elite."

Pat definitely gets it. I have been a big fan of his since reading the Death of the West 15 years ago.

As for National Review, the Weekly Standard and the accredited conservative columnists of the big op-ed pages, their hostility to Trump seems to rise, commensurate with Trump’s rising polls.

As the Wizard of Oz was exposed as a little man behind a curtain with a big megaphone, our media establishment is unlikely ever again to be seen as formidable as it once was.

Exactly why the Becks, Red States, and Salem Medias hate Trump. It has nothing to do with ideology (these idiots were glorifying Romney and McCain). It's all about the loss of power.

Most GOPers have to get approved by the CPACs, Club 4 Growths, etc. They've always been the kingmakers. Trump was respectful, but didn't go that route. He went on CNN and NBC instead of sitting around Bill Kristol's conference table.

Additionally, if Trump were nominated, after the vitriol (that can never be walked back) it will prove that they have no juice, and overvalued their influence.

Commies took decades to take over Democrat party.
It might take few years to give GOP transfusion and discard the uniparters.
Third party is the suicide, margin is too small to risk it, guaranteed RATs victories.

Pat is old, but he sees more clearly than ever, and his views were ALWAYS extremely incisive.

How he grew up in DC yet as if by miracle escaped DC’s liberal, seductive claws always amazes me.

they sure don’t appear to be the ‘Grand Old Party’ right now.

more like the Whigs, or updated to be Wimps.

Yes, Pat is very good on this. Today's Washington Post editorial was a masterpiece of mendacity and dissimulation, and Pat just called them on it. Yes, in order to "save our democracy" all we need to do is disregard the preference of the voters. You figure that one out.

The Trump campaign is not a hostile takeover of the Republican Party. It is a rebellion of shareholders who are voting to throw out the corporate officers and board of directors that ran the company into the ground.

I'd like to go through the whole, rotten mess down to the line level managers with a box full of pink slips. The purpose of this country is not to carry a manicured, pompadoured, thousand-dollar-suited elite in the comfort they feel they deserve, and they will either dismount gracefully or be thrown off. Enough of this. If it weren't Trump it would have been somebody else.

America's brats had a tantrum in 1968 and they've carried that insufferable sense of entitlement for nearly half a century. What we now have in government is the result. Time for a long-overdue spanking, and they can make it as hard or as easy as they choose, but it's coming.

Trump has all the right enemies, but he needs to win this outright or the elites will steal it from the voters. Mark Levin read all of the underhanded tricks played at previous GOP conventions to counter the will of the people. Lincoln’s steal of the nomination in 1860 from Seward is amazing.

The GOP has been infiltrated by liberals running in districts or states as republicans, where they know they could not otherwise win as democrats. These bad seeds need to be expunged from the party. This is the big fear of the elites. With Trump as president, they will lose control of the party machine that decides who runs for everything from dog catcher to US senator. The GOP is the only party with the moral compass to right this country and Trump and the people would control it if he won. This is why the elites would rather lose than have Trump as president.
