Word For The Day, Tuesday March 22, 2015
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
garderobe [gahrd-rohb]
-n
1. a wardrobe or its contents.
2. a private room, as a bedroom.
3.(in medieval architecture) a latrine or privy.
[1400-50; late Middle English < Middle French: literally, (it) keeps clothing]
It’s gonna be another one of those days
good morning Dave.. all
yet another word I did not know (as are most of them)
garderobe [gahrd-rohb] -n
1. a wardrobe or its contents.
2. a private room, as a bedroom.
3.(in medieval architecture) a latrine or privy.
My favorite garderobe is found in Narnia - the Witch and the Wardrobe... my least favorite is in my bedroom (no further explanations)
Have a stellar week Freeper friends
I am just about done with “those days.” This month has been the worse for me in a long time. Finances and health have had me spinning. Then you come up with a word that has no apparent secret meaning and moreover is so arcane as to be a pure struggle to use.
Let’s see. The garderobe was the children’s secret passage into a land of adventure and wonder where they met heroes, like Donald, and villains, like Hillary.
Thanks to C.S. Lewis for much more than I can ever repay.
Wonder if it’s related to the (mostly “Southron”?) “chiffarobe” or “shiffarobe”?
`
One of these days, one of those days will come up.
For me, it's a Tuesday. Popeye's Chicken has a lunchtime special.
It's prudent to find small ways to celebrate each day, rather than big ones, because bigger things are rare, and constantly seeking them out, one is largely disappointed.
I don’t know. I didn’t know this word existed till last Thursday.
it’s a place to guard/keep your robes I guess.
Tue bad it is no longer the tue month of the year: Then you could be guarderobes on tuesday, the tue-tuenty-tue day of the year!
And guarderobes well! Let no stain fall upon them from above down tue the earth.
Hillary looks through her garderobe
For pantsuits that mitigate lard-probe
This corrupt ex-attorney
And her counterpart, Bernie
Disgust me; I must be a retard-phobe
LMAO!!!!
I am so sorry you have been having a rough time...I will add you to my prayers, FRiend!
(((HUGS)))
The garderobe could double as a prayer-closet, after all! :-)
garden gnome
The skeletons are locked in the gaderobe
Of the candidate’s Chapaquidic abode
The media won’t look
Or give her the hook
As she waddles across the globe.
A customer actually offered to pay us today instead of waiting till the end of the week, so I came home to print the invoice-
When castles had garderobes
No amount of money they had
To spend on making it fancy
Would make it less than bad
It was still just an outhouse
On an upper floor and indoors-
Stuff ended up at ground level
Through a shaft between floors
To hide the incriminating stuff
Like Hillary’s server I’d guess
Would work-I doubt that anyone
Would go searching in that mess...
I’m off to get the guys paid-back later...
So...Bob, how was the Popeye’s special and was it good?
At The Home- today’s lunch was stew, not bad, however, all the beef they cook tastes the same.
Hopefully the Dems will go down the garderobe after this:

It was adequate, as usual. I got two orders, so that I could share with our diminutive associate, who will eat only one piece.
So that left me with three pieces of chicken for lunch. It tasted like chicken, but that's probably a good thing.
The thing about eating fried chicken is that it can bring out your inner caveman tendencies. As Frank Perdue pointed out, a chicken leg comes with its own handle.
So I guess I'm admitting to being a closet barbarian.
