Trump said: "ifAbortion was BANNED, then there should be a punishment for women who have them."

Isn't that true of any lawbreaker?— Bill Mitchell (@mitchellvii) March 30, 2016

I was trying to avoid the obvious Nazi reference.

So should women who terminate their babies after they reach the age or 2 years not be prosecuted either?

I disagree with Trump on many things, but not on this.

So its not the abortion provider who sucks the babies brain out?

“Thus we should not have prosecuted Andrea Yates, but instead prosecuted the utility that provided the water to fill the bathtub.”

If the utility knew what she was going to use the water for, gave it to her, then came over and held the baby under for her, certainly we should have prosecuted them.

Anyway, the whole idea of not prosecuting the women is a pragmatic consideration, not one based on principle. Of course, if we held to strict moral principles, the women are just as culpable, perhaps even more. Yet, if we go around saying “we need to prosecute these women”, there is no way in hell we’d ever get abortion banned again. So if you are anti-abortion and would like to end it, just for pragmatic reasons, you probably don’t want to say things like that.

Just so I’m clear here: Trump is awful b/c he thinks that, if/when abortions are illegal again, women who still execute their children should be punished. Pro-life groups are, what? Far more nuanced? Don’t think illegal abortions should be punished?

As the article states, the focus has always been on punishing the practitioners and providers of abortion. I think women should be held responsible, also. The only fault I see with this is that Trump didn’t offer any guidelines as to what that punishment should be.

“Of course, if we held to strict moral principles, the women are just as culpable...”

Perhaps we should stick with moral principles.

In Biblical terms its throwning seed down on stone. You have to soften the heart before they can hear the message.

Convincing someone abortion IS an act of murder is the only way to change their hearts.

If Trump could articulate that (a big if), he could actually break through the PC nonsense and do some real good.

I think people are beginning to be willing to drop some fights to save the country.

but it never works out that way.

Are you going to be OK when Donald J. Trump is elected President in November 2016, or will you need professional help?

He won’t be given a chance too

Of course, he'll be given a chance. Have you been paying attention to how much media coverage he's gotten?

Why bother saying anything against abortion?

Everything triggers the left into a rage. Instead of worrying if they will try to use words against you, then it is best to use the words and let them be the one to explain why it’s wrong.

I’ve posted in the past about this very issue. Abortion should be illegal because it is murder. Therefore, it should require a penalty/punishment. Trump is right.

Since he wouldn’t be in charge of the legislature or the judiciary, it wouldn’t fall to him to think up a punishment on the spot in the middle of a TV interview.

Sure, we could be sitting on our moral high horse while abortions continue and millions of babies die, but we’d be perfectly morally correct and feel really good about ourselves.

Or, we could make some concessions to pragmatism and actually have a chance of stopping abortion and saving those babies’ lives.

I don’t think you are going to get both.
