This is a point I think Trump could make far more effectively than trying to associate Cruz Sr with LH Oswald. In the course of his career, he has hired perhaps 100,000 people (not at the same time) of which, if he were such a rotten racist, you’d think there would be one or two or fifty who would cheerfully come forward and take whatever money the DNC would pay.

There was a reason to associate his father to Oswald, it smacks at his father's credibility. If these pastors do in fact get on the pulpit to state what Cruz's father uttered, then parishioners would have something to counter that with. You must counter these types of statements being made, and not let them go uncontested.
