Roy Hodgson has left his post as England manager following the national teams shock 2-1 defeat to Iceland in their Euro 2016 last-16 tie on Monday evening.
Hodgsons decision to quit comes as no surprise following Englands loss to a country competing at their first major tournament and with a population of just 329,000 comparable to Coventry.

Im extremely disappointed of course about tonights result and ultimately our exit from the competition, Hodgson said. We havent progressed as far as I thought we were capable of, and thats obviously not acceptable.
Im actually proud of the work my coaching staff and I have achieved over our time at the helm of England. The transition from the squad whose average age was 30 to now being the youngest in the tournament is both remarkable and exciting for the future of English football. I would have loved to stay on for another two years.

Not to mention firing Dunga for not even making it into the knockout round in Copa America this year.
The population of England is over 50 million. The population of Iceland is over 300,000. England has a storied history of football/soccer. Most people probably don’t know Iceland plays. So, I think it was kind of an upset.

That game was an embarrassment to English Soccer/Football. The players should be ashamed of themselves, not playing like a team as they did. Iceland is a really good TEAM.

Iceland has something like 330,000 people, and to put together a national team as good as the one they have is actually pretty amazing.

Nearly if not all of the Iceland team members play professionally for teams around the world. They play like a team, too.
Well done, Iceland. You have spared Hafthór Björnsson from having to crush the head of a winning English team’s captain.
