Senior service officials are now exploring draft requirements concepts and evaluating the kind of avionics, engineering, weapons, armor and technical redundancy the aircraft would need, Air Force officials told Scout Warrior.
As a result, the Air Force will be looking for the optimal type of close-air-support platform by weighing various considerations such as what the differences might be between existing aircraft and future developmental platforms.

Almost any old BS to make it go away!
We are working on a bigger, better new one; the check is in the mail...
It has reached the point where Air Force Brass can no longer be trusted to design Close Air Support. The Army needs to design, have built and totally control it’s own.
My thoughts exactly. This is a smokescreen to get rid of the A-10.
That was uncalled for. /sarc LOL
A super warthog. They’ll screw it up. Watch em keep the name, then it’ll be covered with hard points for attaching defense contractor pork.
It's one hell of a close air support platform. I'd hate to see them taken out of service just to satisfy the bureaucrats and the government contractors who want to make billions building the next gen CAP system.
I thought the F-35 was going to fill that role.
The AF Fighter Mafia’s Super Warthog - A F35 with a camo paint scheme.
Send them the drawings for the Cobra Rattler jet. Hasbro really jazzed the A10.
Any one want to be the requirements include supersonic cruise?
Administration lie #2: We need a super A-10! It will cost billions and billions, but we need it!
The truth: The A-10 kicks ass.
EXACTLY!!!
If one wanted to be creative and have a super wart-hog....I’d put up a high altitude blimp at 30,000, with a dozen live-action cam’s, remote-controlled, ten GAU-8 Gatling-guns, and 300 air-to-surface missiles. You don’t need some roving aircraft....you just something that is beyond the normal sight of the bad guys and equipped to bring maximum firepower in a matter of seconds onto one square yard.
A stopped in for pics of the A-10, not ... that
They could save millions by leaving the A-10 as it is and it will still dominate the battlefield.
Was in Tucson about 1/2 a dozen years ago. Saw them taking off out of Davis-Monthan
You can build a fleet of A-10’s for the cost of one F-35.
I have some involvement in Air Force acquisitions.
My opinion: Acquisitions is about spending money and keeping a lot of people employed.
Support for the warfighter is what they talk about, but the reality is that it is about 93rd on the list of priorities.
If people only knew how much “spending money” is prioritized, they would feel very differently about this stuff.
