I have done a fresh install of Win 7 OS but I can't get the windows updates. It's been a few days and I am getting nothing from MS - I've tried several "fixes" suggested on different OS forums, but still nothing. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
They are trying to force everyone to windows 10
That’s my take on it but I can’t prove it...
I have stopped updating my W7. Every time I do one, they keep trying to slip W10 in with the update. The last update I did wrecked my McAfee anti-virus to the point that I had to get another AV program.
Is it throwing an error or just not pulling things on automatic?
Well, just coincidentally they ended the free Windows 10 distribution on July 28. I imagine they will phase out support for Windows 7.
I have wondows 10 and see no reason not to update if while it is still free.
it runs well and I have no issues with it.
When you say you’re not getting updates, what is happening when you try to run Windows Update? Does the list not populate? Or does it just freeze while installing? Do you get a message that the updates failed to install?
I would suggest not trying to install all the updates at once if it is failing. Install a couple at a time and you can isolate which one is failing then exclude that from future updates.
Also, with a fresh Win7 install, it is normal for Windows to take a day or more to install all the updates, even if it all works properly. So if it’s just taking forever, it may be normal.
There is a “viral push” in cyber-space claiming to “auto-update” to Win10. Make sure your digital-protection devices are wearing an internet condom!
According to PCMag: "Microsoft won't end security updates for your Windows 7 PC until Jan. 14, 2020.". So, three and a half more years, subject to change I suspect.

Support ended in 2015
There are issues you may not “see” with Win10. For example, they collect all kinds of data on what you use on your computer and transmit it to Microsoft without bothering to ask you for permission. They collect so much info, in fact, that French courts have basically declared Win10 in violation of their anti-spyware laws and banned it from that country until Microsoft remedies the issue.
Paid support will extend beyond 2015
.
Last time I updated, I had to just go ahead and let my laptop run overnight. In the morning it was updated. I think they have relegated non Win10 users to the slowest server on the planet.
I have noticed that any .net framework updates always seem to take a long time.
“Is it throwing an error or just not pulling things on automatic?” - nope, it just won’t download anything. No errors...just nothing for days
I do not recommend updating Win7 because you’ll involuntarily end up with Win10 Spyware Edition*.
*the only actual edition of Win10
Yes!!!!!
The same thing just happened to me just the other day. My Windows 7 machine from 2009 (1st generation i5 Intel chip) has been great the entire time. However, all of a sudden I cannot do anymore installs or updates? My installer is missing and I believe Microsoft removed it with an update? Although I can’t prove it.
This all came to me right after I received a message that I had until July 29th to update to Windows 10 for free. I kept rejecting it saying no not interested.
I tried everything I could and cannot undo it unless I reset my machine to Day 1. I would risk lose everything that I have on my machine even I backed it up. So I will not do it.
As soon as the new Apple computers roll out (next month or two) then I will switch over to them. I am either going to purchase the latest Macbook Pro that will come out in September or October. If their is a new Desktop (aka iMac) next month or two, then I will get that. That’s IF they come out with a new desktop in next month or two.
Once I have my new Macbook Pro or iMac, then I will transfer everything over to Apple. I checked it out and it can be done.
With Apple you pay a lot upfront, but never have to clean it like you do with PCs. Buy all those virus cleaners, etc...
I have an iPhone 6, an iPad Air and even the newest Apple TV along with Roku 4 . Anyhow, its an easy set up and all great devices.
Thanks all - I guess I’ll just let it run a while longer and see if anything happens.
