The only female officer enrolled on the Marine infantry training course has dropped out.

The woman, who has not been identified, failed two conditional training hikes last month during the grueling course - meaning she could not make the final cut and be selected for a front line combat role.

It was her second attempt at the program, after failing for the first time in August, and was the only female in the group.

She will now be given a new position in the US Marines.

There is a web site called “Rally Point” for military or ex military and retires. Great site, well ran. There was a story posted over there that one of the issues with women in combat arms is that not enough women are volunteering. Seems women aren’t as crazy as we think! I find it funny that of the studies on feasibility, unit cohesion etc etc none asked the women if they wanted to join combat arms!

Marines are called GRUNTS for a reason; any job in the 03 designation is difficult to say the least.
Long hours (or days), little rest, lots of weight, lots of boot leather miles, short rations, really ugly situations.
To be a good GRUNT you have to be born 1/2 man, 1/2 mule.
I did my first tour as an 0311, (got smart quick).
Did my second tour as a 0844, (yes, I am more intelligent than I let on).
There are plenty of important and responsible positions in The Corps for women; 01, 02, 04, 06, 26, and 27 just to name a few.
These jobs don’t normally involve a lot of hill humping with a 120 pound ammo pack or close combat.
Should women serve, ABSOLUTELY.
Should women serve in frontline combat positions, ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Met a lot of Woman Marines while I was in; even dated a few, they were good at their jobs or they wouldn’t have been Marines.
Let them do what they want; just don’t put them in my fighting hole next to me.

it puts all other soldiers at risk.

the military is the last place anyone has a right to do anything based on simply wanting to do it.

Re: 06 MOS

I remember radio operators being 2500s.
Things change though.

I saw very few BAMs. They might have been one per cent
of the manning. I NEVER saw or heard of one doing a job
where they would get dirty. They did not even get mess duty
or fire watch.

They also had much better living quarters than us lowly serfs.
I did however have a private room with only 40-60 other guys depending on location.

Never had enough rank for a real room being only a Sgt. E5 at EAS.
